Tom remember you are "doing" what many motorheads dream of doing but never manage to compete. I can tell you from personal experiance that my 1200 that is 30 seconds a lap slower than my single seater is just as fun if not more so, as the 1200 never needs to be worked on. Also I'm just as proud of my 2002 stock class points championship at Rallycross/Khanacross as I am the lap record certificate in the single seater. I'm going on my 21st season of racing , It took me 6 years to get to my first event I thoguht I was going to die before it ever happend. The first trophy is always a great feeling and 10,20,30 years from now you can smile and know you had great fun. Of course now that you are most improved you will get a proper Rally Datto I hope.

As for the age limits my son the Karter would love to do some Rallycross but can't till he is 16.

Tom

PS I must confess my Rally car is a Mitsubishi Galant.....cuz it was $400 and how could I pass that up.

Great to hear of your success!

My son turns 12 next year - and is very keen to start doing Motorkhanas straight after his birthday....

In Victoria, Australia the CAMS ruling is you must be 12 to do the 'cones in the car park course' - type of racing. 14 yrs old to do "Autocross" sort of half way between rally and in the car park. Then at 16 they are allowed to race on the circuit (like Phillip Island, Sandown, Calder in Vic).

I'm am planning on letting him use my 1200 circuit car....but a little wary. Might put a shift light in it before then.

Edit: 12 yrs old for Motorkhana, 16 yrs old for Autocross (unless already competed in Motorkhana , then min age is 14). For circuit racing min age is 14!

Lifted this from the CAMS website a few moments ago...
Congratulations again!

Your right, but in my case its all off road, ie. the "big parking lot with coned course" is a "paddock with sticks"..

Yeah we do have track days, my club doesn't run them unfortuantly but yeah i'll keep at it..

Tom it took me a minute , Khanacross is what we call Rally cross and Motor Khana I think is what we call Autocross i.e. big parking lot with coned course.
First congrates on the result and congrates on getting out there and doing it. As a Rally and Rally cross organizer I meet guys your age who want to do this kind of thing but feel they must at least have a WRX , can't be racing an old Datsun or Corolla....good for you.
Next take your Datto out whether it is competitive or not it will be fun even if your just racing around a big parking lot. (my 11 yr old son runs a Yamaha KT100 powered Kart at local Autocross.)
Do you guys in Tas have track days. In the USA we have performance driving days where you can bring a street car and run round the track (I instruct with two groups) At a Porsche Club day we had a student in a bone stock beetle.
Racing can be done cheap if all you care about is having fun. When I ditched my road race motorcycle and got the 1200 I had $1800 US in the car including the price of the car and it was still street legal. Many folks asked why I would run something that slow to which I replied "it's faster than a set of bleachers" The car had a bone stock engine at that point.
Anyway congrats again and keep doing this in about 5-10 years , like most of us you will find you have the income to do more.
