Hi,
I just had my 1000's auto box rebuilt and the difference between the "a" and "b" is that the "a" has a notoriously weak diaphragm spring on the first clutch which was strengthened for the "b" boxes. Mine was broken into three peices and it cost me $600 to get a chrysler torqueflyte one machined to fit! total cost of the auto trans rebuild due to damage from a neways additive: $1250.00.

But the auto rebuild bloke recons that these are still one of the best auto's around!

All the 1200 (including 1971-1973) use the JATCO transmission, model numer 3N71A. This is more or less the same as used in Toyotas, etc.

The B310 uses 3N71B. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I would expect it to swap right into a 1200 automatic car.

Thats a good deal.
JUst remeber that teh 1200 auto from 74 or 75 onwards is the same as many fitted to other jap cars like mazda rx7 even.
If you do a search of the model no on the net youll be surprised at how many other cars have them. You could also use the upgrade model with the 4 speed but youll need mikes talent in electrics to hook up the electric overdrive setup which doesnt run off a computer as I originally thought.
Even my old 4 speed auto liteace had a carb and 4 speed overdrive.

I've got one. Got all the goods you need for an Auto conversion. Pedal box and the lot included, you'll need a tailshaft tho, but I'll swap you for your manual gear.

This auto is fresh out of a B310 and is in perfect condition. Let me know, I'm in Adelaide.

Pay no attention to these single minded stick shift hero's DG, they just love the feel of their knob in their hand. If you want an auto, then go for it.

The Jatco trans that was used in our favorite small Datsuns is a fairly basic design, as auto trans go, but they are sturdy & reliable. With an A15 engine that's built for torque, in near-to-standard trim, you will be pleasantly surprised just how smooth & strong your little Datsun can be, & lets face it, a smooth & strong performing car is always a joy to drive.

My son's 1200 coupe is an auto & I was beginning to think, how hard would it be to use one in my 1000, but the project is too far along to change now. With a stock 1200 engine my son's coupe is a bit on the slow side, but a strong torquey A15 would transform it.

Make sure that the internals of the trans are all correctly adjusted by having it serviced at a Datsun friendly auto trans specialist. Nothing worse than a sloppy trans.

You go girl,... automaticly.

Hey Dattogirl learning to drive a manual is easy!

I sorta learnt how to drive a manual (XD ute with 3 on the tree... that had/has I still have it but it doesn't go (it's in the needing stage - it needs a rebuild ) a bent steering column - the gears were all over the place!

but because of the bent column I never got to learn how to downshift....

I then got "The Defect" a March '77 120Y 4 door sedan that was an auto... about 4-6 months ago it got a manual conversion and I have NEVER looked back!
