A ll of the A14's here in the U.S. have the same thing . The plate is sandwiched between the two. Just pull the two studs out & use bolts in all four , put the plate & gasket in place, then flat washers & nuts . tighten.

In case anyone else is interested....the 'hot box' plate came of the exhaust manifold after some persuasion with a pry bar, and fit nicely in the hole in the intake manifold....just have to go buy some bolts of the right size to bolt it down.

I had the gaskets for this part in the kit I got too - came in handy now.

Tragedy averted.

Thanks Ash...nothing like some positive reinforcement will have a go.

Will repost again with a success (or failure) story.

I got the same plate with one of my A14s - it does come off the exhaust mani & you should be able to use gasket goo or something to help you bolt it on. I think you'll need some shorter bolts for 1/2 of it tho?

It's a very early A14 as far as I can tell. Then engine number is A140010xx. Nissan couldn't tell me where it came from - they say their records only went back to the Sunny. 1979.

I've got a twin weber side draft manifold...just don't have the set of weber 40 dcoe's....one day.

I'll try getting the heat sink of the exhaust manifold and bolting it onto the intake - or otherwise if anyone has a manifold that will take the stock carby and the oval A14 intake ports...looks like I'm keen.

you can either make a blanking plate from a piece of alloy, or find another intake manifold that doesn't use the heat riser.

Hey all,

Bit hot here in Vic to work on the car today...but not too hot to try and solve a mystery about the Datto.

I've got a set of extractors, and want to use them with the stock intake manifold. The only problem is that carby heating system that is part of the stock intake&exhaust manifold.

I thought I might be able to pry that plate of the exhaust manifold and bolt it to the intake....but wasn't confident it would work. Anyone have any experience with this situation?

Here are some pics to see what I mean.
