Yes, there's not a huge difference between the twin-carb cylinder heads and the regular oval-port heads that have the small chambers.

i know the gx heads are the bees knees ... but if you get stuck maybe an A14 head could be the go ?? bigger ports and valves, give it an overhaul, clean up the chambers and a set of double valve springs ... and ta daaaaa and readily available manifolds from redline or jts.

turns out the dealer dint have any of the heads i wanted, but i mite have a whole engine lined up anyway.

not to name names but the wreckers are "grand auto wreckers" from adelaide (australia).
they are supposed to be a nissan and datsun specialist.

i hope he hasnt mistaken me about the B210 GX or woteva.

Good point. Maybe he has a cylinder head from a B210 "GX" car, not realizing that those cars did not usually (if at all) have GX engines. The B210 GX models in USA had a single-carb engine.

Also note that the twin-carb engine in a B210 is officially listed as "A12T". The B110 parts catalog did not use the term "A12T", but referred to it as the A12 for "GX" models.

Trivia? Perhaps. But if you know more than the wrecker man, you'll come out ahead.

The GX head was also used in the B210 models & the early versions at least, used the same casting as the 1200GX, but it was simply machined without the extra holes for the rocker oiling that the earlier 1200GX had.

Both the 1200GX & the slightly later A12 GX head will work as a bolt-on, on your later engine.

The letters GX have been widely used to denote the base model of many Datsun [& other] cars & I suspect that your wrecker is making this mistake & doesn't realise that in the 1200 & 120Y models, this referd to the factory high performance model

I think he means he has lots of A-series cylinder heads. If he knew what an "A12 GX head" was he wouldn't ask you. But maybe he does have some, but doesn't know how to tell them apart.

Note that there is no A12 GX head for a 1978 A12. The "real" GX heads were for 1971-1973 A12 engines, and have a different oiling system. However, I think they will work on your 1978 engine.

i was talking to a wrecker who said he had lots of A12 GX heads.
i said i wanted one but he tells me he needs a "sample" as there are lots of different ones.
i have told him specifically what i want to do with it, and what its going on (non GX A12). i told him i wanted an A12 GX head (not just that i wanted a GX head) but he still says something about a sample as there are different types of heads.

i cant think as to what he means. was there different types of heads for the A12 GX? if so what one would go onto a 78 A12?
