With a drag 1200 ute you could run in to the 9.90 zone with as little as 360hp flywheel.

Here's some 1/4 miles times. Seems Ron in Hawaii is now running a KA24(?) turbo running at 11.9 seconds. Compare that to a mild na KA24DE at a reported 13.99. Those engines are twice as big as an A12. http://www.dragtimes.com/Datsun--1200-Drag-Racing.htmlOur old friend Luis is now running 9.000 @ 149.000 in the 1/4 mile.

Try this calculator: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dyno.htmFor a Datsun 1200 with A14/A15 engine, say 1660 pounds. 150 pound driver (total: 1810 pounds). 120 gross HP which is maybe 90 rwhp, the calculator says estimated ET of 15.8 seconds. For 120 rwhp, it's 14.4 seconds.

In the 14s bracket id assume or a somewhere in the 13s mark if you went crazy. (big$$$)
I mentioned this once before. A story my uncle told me who is a an engine reconditioner. They built and a15 for this guy. He had custom forged pistons and rods. Good rod bolts, headstuds and head gasket. Shotpeened crank, o-ringed block and my cousin did the headwork. Massive valves, double valve springs and alot of hours playing around with the flow numbers. Supercharged, fuel injected with a carefully thought out cam. To end the story it ran a 12.7/ (sorry cant remember mile an hour) Lots of dollars though but i think this proves the A-series worthy.

I think you might want to have a look at this little presentation- it was developed for another forum but the principles are the same http://albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting.php

the threads a little old now but figured i'd add to it incase of future reference :
1973 sedan, built nearly as a daily driver (full interior, big stereo) running gear : A12, all balanced, good head work, electronic ignition, twin 40mm webers, 2" exhaust, standard H145 3.9:1 diff, 195/50/15 tyres.
time down quater mile : 17.623sec @ 78.07mph
this is the best time i did on the day.
there was an A15 in a 1000coupe, full racecar that was doing 15.01sec @ 90mph or so.

I was kind of meaning it as a joke, but at the very least a chart showing how how many hp an ideal 1200 would need to achieve a given 1/4 time. Something like this, maybe with the user able to set his weight.
