i've heard the L series engines bolt straight into the 120y
Well, if you have enough bolts. There actually do exist parts to bolt L series engine into 120Y. See PB210 Excellent Series. The latter B210s with L16 were not PB210s, just B210s.

But the A15 is arguably better than the L14. If you go with an L18 or L20B you get more power, but the engine and trans are both heavier. You'll also need a heavier rear diff.

This looks like the forklift A15 specs.
Makes peak torque 80ftlb at just 2200prm and peak hp 46hp@3600rpm.

Industrial A15 specs

EDIT: Looks like they might still be making them...
More industrial application

EDIT2: This might explain why
BorexStroke = 71.0mm X 80.5 mm

Not that I'd take any time away from looking at this site but I heard there is a 120y forum on yahoo? I wouldn't mind a wagon later, I mean I had one but it's gone so no piont crying. I have a coupe and a 4 door sedan. I know I haven't mentioned much about the sedan to you guys but I might as well soon

glad they are popular. i've always been a fan of the wagon's, not the sedans though. even the coupe's are in a way sexy.... apart from the rear end. lol.

would be good to see data on the differences in A15 specs. then i'd know which to go 4.

Well I think the 120Y is pretty popular here so you are more than welcome.

Regarding the different 'tunes' of A15 engines I wonder if someone has some hardcore data on the differences in timing curves, torque curves etc...

I defintely don't...but someone will.

it appears that the rumours of an a15 still abound in datsun land... from my searching, the a15 had 3 differnet guises...
sunny
vannette
industrial (forklifts etc)

each had a different application and each ahdd similar differences.
each ahd different dizzy graphing, different exhaust manifolds and finally different camshafts.
There are differences in camshfts between sunnys and vannetes, it appears vannetees have peak tourqe at 4500rpm not approx 5600rpm as in sunnys. there fore peak power also was at a lower rpm.
The a15 head i used had a 3 bolt manifold which i am told is a japanese domestic item and could be used in vannetees or industrial applications...
but then again, i may be just running off the roumer mill too. but it seems logical and from my research, plausible to true (watching too much mythbusters maybe now)
