no worries mate, jump on Limewire or the likes, and seach for S13 manual, it gives you a complete service guide to the CA18DET so you will just need to disregard the turbo info.

It has a complete CA18DET wiring for the coil packs, if you wanted to go completly external aftermarket coils you just have to relocate the wiring in which is damn easy, they all share a common +ve and the negative is trigged from the ECU through an ignitor which then goto the coils.

Cheers

Thanks for the awsome info DAMO, especially about the tunnel. Do you know if the wiring diagrams you are talking of are on-line and if so where. Is there a diagram for the external coil set-up anywhere. CHEERS ONCE AGAIN dude.

with fitting the gearbox in, if your 1200 came originally with an auto then the stumpy box fits in, depending on the angle you have your engine on when making the mounts you may have to massage the tunnel slightly.

Manual tunnel you need to really bash the crap out of it to fit or cut and shut a larger tunnel in.

With the silvia 5sp you need to no matter what tunnel you have cut out the rear section and make up like a box instead of a hump (check dattoman's website for pics) as the silvia box near the gear stick is a big block, also your handbread has to be relocated back as the gearstick now comes out 8" futher back then when it originally started.

The pintara master and slave shout be fine as long as your not running a brake booster, because if you are running a booster you can't use an engine bay mounted clutch master as it will foul with the booster (they overlap), in which case sus out a nissan Urvan they use in cabin masters (I have this setup and can provide pics).

To get alot of power out of a NA CA, I'd go big cams, aftermarket computer, quad throttle bodies, maybe even eater injection to help cool the donk.

Tomei or HKS are very good with their cams from what I've heard.

Wiring is easy as long as you can read wiring diagrams, then yes it is as simple as splicing in all the apropriate wires to the computer from your existing loom and the computer loom, turn the key and aye presto (providing the ECU has been base mapped for a CA18DE).

You can use the boshe external coils and mount them on a rail off the engine and run leads to the engine, this would help eliminating heat damaging the coils, yes some coil packs don't like heat too much and break down when hot.

I hope I've answered all your questions

Cheers
Damo

Just a couple of quick questions (i know there is no such animal in existance but bear with me)
I just purchased a CA18DE out of a s13 (i think). I got a donk, box, computer, loom, radiator, tailshaft, clutch master and slave for $450. I am gonna jam it in my 1979 1200 ute.

Is there any truth in that ca18 coils are scared of a little heat, if so whats da fix, could'nt you just pull the coil cover off and run a small bonnet scoop to air cool em. i am asking this cause i wanna squeeze as much as i can NATURALLY ASPIRATED, Thats right NO TURBO. That means winding up the compression (not the boost) and with compression comes HEAT. Whats another fix or will my idea work?????

Who out there does good cam packages other than jap import stuff like TOMI and NISMO (i am thinking CROW, WADE, SIG ERSON etc) and what were the prices and performance like if you have tried these or any other brands????

I have gone through the old posts and found that either with the stumpy 5 speed or the s13 5 speed you need tranny tunnel mods. some say just bash the tunnel and some say cut and weld. From SOMEONE who has actually done the conversion with their own 2 hands and eyes is bashing the tunnel enough. Either way i am gonne get the hot hammer out but this will let me know if i have to be a little more prepared.

Will the clutch set up that comes with my donk work or should i go the pintara set up mentioned in a previous post?????

finally electrical. 2 THINGS. 1, is wiring it going to be a nightmare or is it as simple as power to computer and plug in all the sensors and turn the key. AND 2 has anyone played with HALTECH'S E6X on a ca18, is it a hassel and what were your results like. Thanks for your time and any/all info good and bad will be taken on board and used wisely in an attempt to get my little ute FLYING.
