I will have to look for pics mate.
Cutting off 2 inches and then welding 2 inches as you go isnt too hard. The pain in the arse bit is getting it to look good and be straight. I am sure Flyby will agree that this part is the pain in the arse.

yeah i did hear sometihng along those lines, thats the reason for posting this thread. so you think it wold b to much hassle doing it? i can understand what you mean about the doors not tucking in enough tho. have you got any pics of your 1200 wagon?

You do realise that when you cut it off, you have to weld the roof skin to the car the full length.

I cut it off on my 1000 wags and also cut it off on my old 1200 wags. The 1200 I didnt like the look of it once done, so I welded bar stock on to give it a smooth lip gutter look. I personally dont think the 1200s doors tuck in enough for the no gutter look, but thats just me.

thanks alot guys, but my driprail isnt even chrome it is just colour coded, so theres not much use in it???

This isn't the best angle, all I could drag up quickly. There is a heap of shots of the actual removal during the buildup somewhere. Datnet maybe? Have a look around. . .


If you do end up removing them, I am still chasing the chrome strip for a couple of driprails. . .

In Japan, some Datsun 1200 "Standard" models didn't have drip rails ... so it should be fine. Just when you open the door, water runs onto your head. Same as some new cars.

It probably helps aerodynamics, you might even get better highway fuel economy. That's why the have been removed from new car designs is what I've read.

Prices for Datsun rubbers can be found here & door seals are under $60 each retail. [+GST where applicable]
The ebay ones sound like a bargain.

If they are realy rust just cut them off. it looked good with out them. The frount door rubber are on ebay for $80 a pair not sure on the back ones. maybe able to use some frount ones.

I'll try to dig up a photo.

yeah mine is a wagon aswell. but yeah the one along the side. oan did it look much better on the wagon or not really much difference? ive been looking at it n it has some rust in there, so i thought i may as well just grind the things off. how much aprox are new door rubbers? can anyone help me out? cheers
