I don't think i'll ever use the remote start it's just to keep it from doing something bad.

I don't mean to be a smarta**, but do you really need to start your car not being in it?
Maybe you should be driving a Ferrari or Lambo, lol . seriuosly tho, with a manual trans. your asking for troube! 1 hurried exit,
and you will be a creature of habit, put the veh. in gear as usual, BAMMO! I guess I'm not the thrillseeker I used to be! but it would be really neat to see that at a car show or gathering..... almost all contemporary trans switches are normally open have fun and what type alarm system are you using?

I have no choke ( i live where it's warm and it starts fairly easy in the snow. ) I don't have to pump the throttle, no accellerator pump.

It already works if i leave it in neutral, i want to make it so it can't try to start if the button were to get pressed while it were in gear.

I'd have to add a clutch solenoid to make it so it would work properly.

I always reverse park and leave it in reverse. I have always thought its better for the car to roll back into another stationary car or wall, than it would be for it to roll into traffic or someone passing by.

Reverse switch NO. Ignition positive goes through swith to reverse lights when in reverse position.

Neutral and Park switch NO. Cranking positive goes through switch to starter motor start terminal. (on your datsun)

Now you just got to find someone to pull the choke and give the accelerator pedal a pump.

In the early 80's many Datsun transmisions had not only a reverse light switch, but also a switch that detected 4th gear in four speed models & yet another switch that picked up fifth gear as well in the five speed models. This was for the valve that allowed the vacuum to reach the distributor in only these two gears.

Since most people park their cars in first gear, I don't think that these two switches would be much good with a starter inhibitor device. Probably better to have a micro switch that picks up when the gear lever is in neutral & pulled across to one side. Only one switch to worry about then.

there's a top gear or in gear or something in addition to the reverse light and some have a third switch for something.

my spare tranny might have switches in ti to test.

maybe the FSM shows NO/NC for those switches

-------
Yes it is in the FSM. they're N/O and there's just 2 Reverse and "Neutral"

so I'll think up a way that the remote start can only work is the car is not in reverse and is in neutral.

problem is the neutral switch N/O or N/C in neutral? ( fsm shows NO but is that in gear or ?? ) I'll assume it's open in neutral and closed in gear...

=======
but if reverse switch is NO and closed in reverse, then should the neutral switch be NO and closed in neutral(open in gear??)

Does anyone know if the reverse light switch in the tranny is NO or NC? Likewise the in gear switch?

why I ask, I want to make a relay that won't let my remote start activate if the car is in reverse or in gear.

And I don't want to climb under the car to find out.

I'd assume both switches are NO.
