The code tells it all.
F= Floorshift
5= Five speed
W= Wide ratio. This is the standard five speed
C= Close ratio. This is the option 1 trans. 3rd & 4th ratios were changed.
56A= The basic series of trans.

There were conversion parts available at one time to make the 'W' into a 'C' so both are dogleg pattern & 1st & 2nd ratios remain unchanged.

Thanks for the info on the GX-5 sedan.

The KB210/ 120Y GX coupe was also offered with the five speed, but I do not know if the B210/ 120Y sedan was ever made as a GX model, & if so, was it offered with a five speed.
Something deep in the recesses of my memory tells me that it was,... & it was, but I don't know for sure.

You left out the F5W56A which was an option in 1973 Datsun B110/ 1200 GX coupes [don't know about the GX sedan] as well as the B210/ 120Y GX coupes. [again, don't know about the GX sedans, or if they even existed]

Hi all just a small correction on the five speeds.
My dad sold datsuns in the early 70s I was talking to him and he told that the five speed was an option for the coupes only as these were factory fitted in japan the other models were built in Australia
cheers Ade

Look at all datsuns that used the A- series engine. Also look for morris minors as datsun A- series motors are a common conversion with the people that own beefed up morries, and they maybe running a datsun 5-speed in it aswell.

5 speeds are pure gold here in the UK they are so rare. Only the very last of the B310 coupes sold had them and I think only on cars with A15's. MG people like to use them as upgrades too which makes them even more in demand. I've only managed to lay my hands on two in the last ten years

so im looking for a Sunny or 120Y? ill worry about specifics after i find one. thanks dd
[edit, then in a later post]

i was just going with what the tech section says.

From technical section in relation to five speed gearboxes.Quote:
Where can I get one?

In the USA:
The B310 5-speed is common and inexpensive. etc. etc.

In Australia,
Ask around. They can be hard to find and expensive.

The five speed was not offered in Australian models, so all of the five speeds that exist here were imported via one means or another.
Fortunately, there have been a small number of five speeds on offer here recently, so one should turn up for the man who is patient.
