with the electronic,transiter type distributor on my L20..when hooking up a msd 6al how do you..do you hookit up the points way??

I had a Bosch 'scorcher' on my L20B, it doesnt have a vacuum advance. atm I've just got a stocko s2 bluey dizzy. Havnt driven one without electronic dizzy so i cannot compare.

The advantage of the Bosch distributor over an aftermarket one for street duty is the ready availability of service parts.
New caps & rotor buttons are available through just about any parts house & many auto electricians across Australia, & many of these places are open seven days a week. Your friendly Nissan dealer can also be added to the list. In an emergency, wrecking yards are also an option. I cary a spare used module & a little tube of the necessary heat sink paste in the glovebox, as replacement can easily be done on the roadside, but I have only ever personally known of two modules that actually failed.

Speaking of modules, they were used on a number of different cars, including some Mishybishy models & some Falcon models too. Again, a wrecker could be the source of a replacement in downtown Heatwave Flats, out in the scrub somewhere if necessary.
The ready availability of service parts is not a selling point for aftermarket distributors.

Lastly, they are a Bosch distributor, so they have a good reputation, & they work well. Very well, & that's why I retro fitted one in my 200B & I have a Datrats one for my KB10's engine.

Yes i have the Bluey S2 on my a14 it is perfect! chalk and cheese when comperd to the Dizzy points setup. High rpms, much more reliable smooth reving and twice as good a spark.

Yes be sure to have the matching coil i have a spare one too .. there arent to many floating around anymore.

There is the fact you dont have to change points, i think that is a definite plus, just beware of buying wrecker elec dissys, the ignitor boxes can fail, new ones are available at nissan but cost a fair bit. Mallory make a distributor for the L series.

There is really no comparison. The Bosch Electronic 'High Energy' ignition that was fitted to the 1984 Series 2 Bluebird in Australia is far & away superior to the standard points system used on all previous models. It can be retro fitted to earlier models without difficulty, but be sure to use the coil that comes with it.

Datrats offer a conversion on these distributors so that they can be used in A series engines too. Highly recomended.
