A club permit can be issued to the following vehicles in the following categories:


Veteran vehicles - manufactured before 1 January 1919
Vintage vehicles - manufactured after 31 December 1918 and before 1 January 1931
Classic & Historic vehicles manufactured after 31 December 1930, but more than 25 years before the date of the application for a club permit.

Here in NZ if a car is 30 yrs old it qualifies to be in the Vintage car clubs. Last year some of the older guys were a bit put out when a mint 120Y won the concourse at one of the local events. I have my 65 MGB and Dattos registered with the VCC as well as my 31 MG M type.

As far as Rules and regulations go in S.A. TnPShow is right but the rules change in each state. but on thing remains identical in each state... " the car has to be 100% original, only upgrades available at the time of manufacture are allowed, SUs, etc,etc." In S. A we have the Sporting car club Which allows members to obtain Classic rego. There would be similar clubs in each state.

I think the word you're looking for is "Classic" (I like that one much better).

We have classic car reg here in SA. I was thinking hard about it for my 1000 coupe stocker. You can drive it for 90 days which is nearly every weekend for the whole weekend - nice!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be a "Vintage" car club - just a car club in general and the car's age qualifies the rest.

I'm talking about "Vintage" for registration purposes, if the clubs go by some other name so be it, but to qualify for "Vintage" Plates the vehicle needs to be 30 years or older and a member of a club

If I remember rightly, my father [who was a founder member of the Veteran Car Club of Australia in about 1954] made it quite clear to me that the international definition of a 'Vintage' car was a car manufactured between the 1st of January 1919 & the 31st of December 1930 [inclusive] If it is newer than that, then it does not rightly qualify as Vintage, no matter how much the masses at large bastardise the use of the word through lack of knowledge.

I'm sure that there is a proper term used to describe cars that have attained 30 years of age, but Vintage surely isn't it.
