I'm with you Eddie. I wouldn't think there was enough meat in the Datsun struts to take the weight and you would still have to make up a bottom seat to hold the spring plus you would
have to thread the whole strut to get down to where you actually want the bottom mount to sit. Also the springs may move around more and rattle as the bottom section of the shaft
(strut) would be that much smaller in diameter because it does not have the threaded sleeve over the outside.

You use a exaust tubing cutter just above the weld on stock spring perch and tube rest on
the collar that remains.

How do you attach the threaded tubes to the strut. The kit Ground Control sells is alloy so you cannot weld them to the strut. Do you just weld on a ring to stop the tube
sliding down? Barry

Surely buying some threaded tubes with proper alloy perch and lock ring would be cheaper? I just did this conversion on my Silvia struts and the adjustable perches were

I'm not sure where you are located but Ground Contol in Calif. should
have a complete kit.

I've actually been thinking of threading the outside of the strut itself and using ring nuts as spring perches. This would work well with the VW GTI inserts since they (VW)
use an outside thread for their top nut. I would like some feedback before I go and buy the $250 thread die though!

I must admit I haven't been following your strut saga that closely but if you were keen on a good set up and you were going to do some fabrication you could look at making your own
adjustable height set up. A friend of mine did it on a mate's club car Commodore. You can buy the threaded collars, lock nuts and spring retainers and weld them on the strut towers
yourself. They made a fully height adjustable kit for the Commodore for something like $250-$300 including new springs. As a bonus these give more tyre clearance as they use springs with
about a 60mm inside diameter. I don't know if there would be a problem with the shape of the datsun strut but its worth looking at if the dollars are right for you.

Hey Barry, I used 200B struts and welded (with inserts removed...) in the 1200 seats.

With the strut disassembled, except for the disc, I bolted on the wheel (195/50/15), then lined up and welded in the spring seat in the
lowest possible position.

The tyres are as close as I could get (2mm) to the strut / spring seat, but they never scrub.

This gave me the comfortable ride & height I was after without having to use stupidly low springs.

I'll try to post some photos over the weekend.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Lowering the spring cups isn't an option because they will foul the tyres (185/65/13). I'll be looking around for some
shortened springs. Barry.
