Sorry to hear about the loss of your B210.

It would be cool to have a Subie engine in a Datsun. (Many of the 1200s were built in the Subaru factory.) Measure the subaru engine, they are plenty wider than inline fours. But maybe it will fit. Give you a low center of gravity and great handling.

I went through some grief over emissions. Two years ago I bought a B310 for $60 at the auction in "non-running" condition. At first they didn't want to transfer the title ... because it didn't have a current emissions certificate. Which makes no sense, because those are only tied to registration, not ownership transfer. Anyways after going back three times they gave me an in-triplicate form to fill out, swear and promise I would never drive it and if I did to get it registered first, and they said they have the right to come by and ask to see the car at anytime... It seems this kind of heavy-handedness results in many people skirting the law (not transferring title and paying taxes). Anyways ...

I hear you DodgeMan. About my car, we could say that I commited the mistake of parking the car on the street, but I had no choice , it was not my house, so I could not park my car in the driveway.
But I belive I had the right to park on the street anyways. What I was not technically able to do is to drive the car, untill the smog situaion was cleared. If not, why would the DMV take money for a registration?? And I paid the fee in full ( as oposed to paying a "non operational registration which registers the car, but takes away the right to park it or drive it on the streets )...and I paid in full on advise from the DMV. I was told expressly that if my smog problem was not to be fixed soon, I would not get the tags, but I could get a permit tio drive it to a staion for the smog check, and, by paying the fees in full, I would have the right to park the car on the street.
Obviously they manipulate the law as they see fit, and decided that although I paid the fee in full, I was not entittled to anything. They even said I could not get a refund of the registration money ( after loosing the car, that would be an insult, but at least I wanted to see how their story holds, if it is true I had no rights by paying a full registration, then technically Inever used it, and I deserve a refund. But, hell no, I get to lose my car, I get ripped off with a fee that did not protect me, I get stepped on with impunity.

Lets forget about that crap, I am over those licensed cardhsrps, I will soon move to the East Coast, CA is the worse place on earth law wise. Law makers need money?? cool...let's enact any laws needed, w / o the concent of the people, we know better....

1940's Mafia 2006 style.

About your job, you are right, a job that will add money to the coffers, and, living off any invest, ment you have.
Also a great side job is buying and selling. Cars are excelent. You can buy and sell cars and make money in the exchange.

Good to hear from you Dodge. How are your vehicles handling now adays??

From what you wrote, it looks like your biggest mistake was leaving it parked on the street, which is public space.

NEVER EVER leave a car parked on the street whenever there is some sort of legal issue going on. The street is a public place & the Nazis have full, free & unfettered access to it. If it was parked in a garage, or in your back yard, but out of view, then you should be safe as it is clearly under repair & being readied for the next smog test [Honest officer, would I lie about something as important as that?]
You say that the car was legally parked, but it would seem that it was regarded as unregistered, pending compliance, & [I presume] they regard that as being illegally parked.
You look to have unwittingly given them both an excuse to take it, & full access to it, with decidedly unpleasant results. That sucks.

Is it possible to de-register it, get it back, then register it again in about a year, after the cutoff date?

As for me, things have been up & down. The overtime at work is off at the moment, so income is cut to the bone. I drive a stock 1200 coupe with auto these days & my 1000 coupe is temporarily on hold while I sort out the 1200 with a thorough going over mechanicly & with an interior upgrade, & while I pay for work that is currently in progress.

I'm looking at taking a redundancy from work after more than 40 years on the job & becoming semi-retired, so I am looking to see what part time jobs are around. Packing shelves in supermarkets sounds good to me. As long as it pays the rent.

Hi dodgeman.

About my 120Y , what happened was that my car did not pass the smog test. I paid all the fees and all the permits required.Because it was one year away from smog exception , the state, through it s agencies that act all in unison, where making it very difficult to get the certification. Although my car had the fees paid in full, it did not have the stickers on the license plate. Fine, technically I could not drive it untill the smog problem got taken care of , but the car was legally owned and registered for years at my name.

The truth is that the state does not like the idea of smog exempted vehicles which will never again pay smog fees, and, which will take the space of a paying car.

Those rats were sending offers to me in the mail, to give me 1000 bucks to junk my car. At the same time, they would not allow it to pass. Like I said, they work in unison, and the Long Bitch city unprofesional police officers drove by my home and picked it up from the street.
The fees were paid, the car was legally parked, and I was not driving it. But according to them, technically, because the smog process was not finished, technically my registration was not finished, which is baloney, because it was not a new car I bought and which registration was not yet to my name, it was a car that belonged to me for years, and everything was taken care off, except the smog test , reason why I did not drive it.
I did everything I could except pass the test. I was waiting to exempt it past jan 1 06, but this low lifes had to twist the rules to take away my car.
All of them help each other, they all belong and respond to the state. The LB police said I had to finalize the process to get it back. The DMV said that they could do nothing about it, because the smog test was not passed.... it is all a concerted effort to get rid of non paying cars. It made no sense, what is the purpose of the police, to find out and verify the paperwork is in order?? or to use any excuse to take away a car from a law abiding citizen??

It is the perfect spider web to get rid of older cars. Do not alow those cars to pass the smog test, then the registration is considered to be in limbo....and...sooner or later the police branch of the plot will catch up with the vehicle and "bingo!" car is deleted from the records.

About my PVC system, yes, I did it with my 180B , it is already exempted , with my B210 , I had all the stuff connected again, I had i8t all, it is easy, air pump, EGR valve, hot air vent , anti backfire valve, selenoid control valve, thermostativcally control valve, ...I know it by memory already...I could become a Datsun Smog technology technician...LOL

I am just disgusted with the whole system , designed to leave you in limnbo for the police to take your car away.
Perfect glitch, no smog test, registration is not finalized....want to recover your car?? got to smog it.....you can not because it is in our lot??? too bad...you lose....

And the impunity with which these people act is incredible. Anyways, within a year I will move to another state...bon voyage Nazifornia...I am going to Virginia!!!

East coast....CA sucks!

+++++++++++++++

Now, bad times behind.....how are you doing mate???
Yes, a 120Y from down under will be great. I will get a B210 just for paperwork stuff, and, once together, I will put together one solid car, 90% from down under, just minor parts as you noted from the US version.

I miss my B210...

Jamie, what was the excuse that the Nazis use to take your ride? You weren't messing with the smog gear again were you?
I have thia vague recall that you wanted to delete even the PCV system at one time.

As for my 120Y , I am not done....I will get one in Australia or NZ and bring it here. Next time I will start right from the begining, a 73 B210 rt hand drive , with the right bumpers and grille.............
the fight is just begining....Long Bitch city....bunch a' Dorks!!!

Aussie B210's are cool with much better looking bumpers, but we had only the A12 engine & the smaller 212.5mm front brake rotors with smaller pads, so by installing the US components, it should be looking good & running fine.

Hi Dodgeman.
I just posted an extensive post, and upon hitting "submitt"...it went up ijn smoke

Yes, I was away for a while, after the nazis at the City of Long Beach took away my car ( 120Y / B210 ) illegally and took all and any unlawfull and illegal steps needed to keep my car away from me.
SOB's, basically they stole my car, and I see red everytime I think of it.

It took me a while to cool down to a temperature where I would not burn the screen at Datsun 1200 and even my 610's steering wheel....It hurt more than losing a relative.....

well, lets put that infamy aside for a while.....

Matt.....my 610 is at Brads, we are getting rid of all that cheesy chrome...you know I am the ambassador of the anti chrome planet....no chrome survives in my proximity.....nothing a good can of spray paint can not take care off.

I have kept my 610 at Brads for a while, after the loss of my child ( my 120Y ) I just put all my Datsun thoughts in denial...I was hurt, and I am still hurt....but.....no shell can keep this Datsun soul away for much too long!
As of Brad...he wishes...he offered me a few cars in X change...never!!! My 610 is rust free...it is a jewel.....not for sale.....if I was to get rid of it....I would put a bomb in it and stuff it into the Long Bitch City hall..... that would be the only sacrifice in mind!!

Dondgeman......as for the engine....yes...I know the routine.....SR20. or CA engines....I just brainstormed about the Subaru engines, because I have great experience with them ( my Ex Subaru Brat...another soap opera page with the infamous city of #### bitch! ) and the ER27 is a flat 6 cylinder.....it is a powerhouse, and super torquey.

As for my 120Y , I am not done....I will get one in Australia or NZ and bring it here. Next time I will start right from the begining, a 73 B210 rt hand drive , with the right bumpers and grille....and about long bitch city...I will sue them for all that crap.....I will enjoy stepping over those dorks....the fight is just begining....Long Bitch city....bunch a' Dorks!!!

I miss my B210...

Matt....I did not see your 1200 in there...please do not tell me that yours is the only one with 20 in wheels.....do not make me have to use my slingshot on you....you are cool....but 20 in wheels.....I am looking for rocks.... ......

Brad is taking his 1200 and that small toyo he found around to Long beach.

Watch out...I will make sure I take my slingshot and a good asortment of rocks...I like to shoot 18 to 20 in wheels.....

Jaime?, last I heard was Brad has your car in his storage and was planning to keep it.

Make sure you set aside Sept. 30 for the JCCS (click below).

You need to see my car. It looks like a horseless chariot

So would an SR or FJ 20T, except that these will be a LOT less drama to install & will probably be quite a bit less costly.
