whats the difference between the GX, the GX-5 and the SSS???
GX= twin carb engine etc. etc.
GX-5= The 5 speed became available in '73 I believe & was made available as an option in the GX only, so any GX that was sold new with the optional 5 speed wide ratio gearbox was a GX-5. I have a sneaking suspicion that the five speed was only ever made as a F5W56A box & not a F5W56. The close ratio 'option one' box was not offered as anything but a separate purchase & the few parts that were different from the standard five speed were available separately to allow conversion of existing gearboxes.
I have a funny feeling that the GX hood didn't become available untill '73 either.
SSS= New Zeland model only. Standard 1200 & 120Y sedans [no coupes] converted in private contractor workshops for Nissan NZ with cam change & twin DelOrto carbs. Lots of other trim & mechanical improvements too, but they retained the round port head. They retained the standard sedan dash too.
I don't know if the 1200 SSS was upgraded to discs, but I hope so.
