running a cheapish tacho, $130 with a shift light, I will disconnect it and see how it revs, well I will guess how it revs by the sound of the engine

Are you running the stock tacho?? They (and most old / cheap tachos) can be a rev limiter when they s**t themselves. Bypass your tacho and try again - worth the effort to find out!! Cheers

just set timing to 14degrees, a noticeable increase in revs from 4000rpm up to 5800rpm getting there slowly!

Try running a wire directly from the batt. to coil + ,maybe a fault wire and try changing coils as well. You can always put the standard stuff back,if all is well then you know theres no fuel problem GOOD LUCK!!!

put a fuel pressure guage on the main fuel line and take it for a drive at the revs and speed it is dying. it is a simple test and can rule out a few things . do you use a standard fuel pump.dont let anyone tell you a standard fuel pump wont work on twin carbs. i run methanol on my a15 and use standard fuel pump.you need to find out is it running out of fuel or an ignition break down.

just a rock into a pond, but check your timing.....
I had my timing a little bit too retarded... and I had allmost the same, where it would be fine with a new set of plugs.... 20 minuted worth of driving and it would be as if the plugs are shot.... new set in, and it's good again... for 20 minutes or so..... etc etc.....
eventually I came to the conclusion that it was the timing..... fixed that and now I'm sitting with about 4 set's of spanking new plugs.....

IT'S BAAAAAAAACK! That damn problem is back again actually it is always there unless I change plugs all the time. I have fitted an electric fuel pump, new cap and rotor to the datrats bluebird series 2 dizzy, new NGKBP6ES-11, at which point it ran perfectly but this week it's crap, major crap wont rev past 4000rpm, checking wiring to the coil, distributor for any cracks or shorts and no noticable faults. Any body have any suggestions before I switch back to stock dizzy and coil and throw this (suspected) piece of crap in the bin?

yeah mate I think I was having problems with the spark plug gap being set at .044" I put new plugs in that were set at .033" and some injsctor cleaner in the tank and i replaced the fuel filter and it has been as good as gold since. I think I will try some irridium plugs gapped at .044" to see how they stand up and i will test out a pair of 155 main jets too just incase it is leaning out at about 7000-8000rpm edit when I took the old fuel filter off of the fuel line from the tank, some bubbles esacaped for a few seconds before fuel began trickling out so I might have had a problem with air capitating in the pump causing the problem by running out of fuel intermittently in the fuel bowl
