it was the points, i don't get it though as i checked them and checked for pitting as per the manual, and there was none so i gave them a very light clean still nothing, got out a set from a dodgy dizzy i had and put them in with pitting and it's back to normal, so i guess the newer points had an issue somewhere...

thanks for the reply!

Okay you may have seen this post on ozdat but seeming this has a big A series following i might have some more luck here.

my car is running very rough at certain speeds, it's not at definite speeds just all over, it's fine at full throttle, but it sounds like an air leak but also missing, i will list what i have changed and then you can asses from there.
the things i have changed are not necisarily new but are in servicable condition, i'm not going to go out and buy new everything just to have it be a $2.00 item.

dizzy rotor and cap
leads
coil
inlet/exhaust manifold gasket
rebuilt the 32/36 weber
checked all hoses connecting to carb and filter assy
checked the timing
checked the mixture
changed the plugs
new fuel
fuel filter
the oil doesn't have collant, and the coolant isn't milky it's nice n green.

the engine is a A14 block with A12 head, 40thou overbore STD exhaust 32/36 weber.
