hey guys just wondering when fitting a ca18det to a 1200 using one of those maddat fitting kits do you need to make a custom exhaust manifold for the turbo to sit on?

If you are moving the turbo Dazza, Give me a yell, I'm happy to help you out with my first generation manifold. I can supply a centrally located cast bend manifold and dump pipe at a very nice price. You'd need to remake oil and water lines though. pm me if you are interested.

I too went stainless, because my big turbo 4 inch inlet was too hard to fit a intake filter.

The stainless ones are good, because all the waterlines etc, don't need changing/

Just for some sort of reference of the power available before worrying about cams, manifolds, headwork etc.
It is not uncommon to see unopened T28 equipped CA18DETs putting out 150 - 170rwkw at around 15psi.
Hope this helps

Kegs - be careful of the cheap manifolds that have flooded the market over the last couple of years. I have seen some horror stories with them.
Some examples:
No or little bracing so pipes keep cracking.
Bolt holes not correctly aligned.
Welding dags in the pipes reducing the flow.
Warped flanges requiring replacement.
None offer flow figures compared to the standard manifold. Just because it's shiny and aftermarket doesn't mean it's better.

If you've got a couple of hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket buy a Bosch or Walbro fuel pump as this will be a necessity at some stage.

Regards Matty

I'm hoping to get one for my conversion soon. I'm getting one that mounts the turbo about midway the motor though, as I'm running out of room for the dump pipe in the standard position. This should work much better.

The standard CA exhaust manifold actually flows quite well and really only needs to be replaced if you are after massive power. The owner of LOSTU did some testing a few years ago and posted his findings on performanceforums.com.
What sort of power are you after?
