NA turbo will be gutless with the smaller cams and less compression. but it will be fuel efficient if you use EFI.

Controlling just ignition without controlling fuel is fraught with problems and economy issues. Managing them together is the answer to reliability.

You are building a disaster in my opinion.

turbo motors seem to use a sh*t load more fuel in relation to a na motor. i want to stick wit the carb as it is more simplistic way to go. turbo and efi equal potental problems. im not looking for mass power gains just a motor with beter peformance and responce. The turbo motor has the good bits like oil squirters on to pistons and most likely stronger parts. the motor would be decompressed from factory for the turbo set up so raising the static c.r is ideal for the na setup. i have alot of time to consider ignition setups and im confident i can mock up somthin with other bits lying around .

these motors do make a reasonable amount of torque in na form compared to the 2l version which is just a poo box. dare to be different

If you already have some turbo spec bottom ends then the most cost/power/torque effective option would be to just get a standard turbo and computer and use that. You would have to spend a lot of money on an NA motor to get it to match the turbo motor.

If you do decide to go with the NA option how are you going to raise the compression economically? How are you going to stick a dizzy on the motor that came standard with a crank angle sensor. (I know that can be done but may cost a bit).

The only problem I can see with using a turbo is your fuel economy aims.

My bro has a S3 bluebird that we dropped an Sr20det into and it was also very easy, Just food for thought. The car is an absolute blast to drive !

hey guys cheers for that, i visited that site and they say the same thing.

Whats your thoughts on build a n/a ca18det, wit high compression and quad motorcycle carbs and some rediculous redline

i want to keep it basic and cost effective. i have plenty of ca parts incase i brake stuff. the most expensive part will be the carb and getting a electric fuel pump to feed it. other thing to conside are extractors, upgrading the valve train, valves, springs and changine the camshaft profile. of course an ignition configuration will have to be implimented. cheap and simple, electronic dizzy of some sort

im not looking for a hi pow engine, my intesioins are to keep it reliable, fuel economical plus the fun factor of torque and revs which seems to be lacking in the carbed ca20

The CA18 into bluebird is one of the easiest conversions. The CA20 gearbox bolts straight up (no bearing changes) and all original crossmembers fit.

If you want bluebird info go to 910bluebird

You will certainly find some hits on your search there.

I haven't done it but I have seen 2 Bluebirds with CA18's in them using the standard CA20 gearbox - so I would say they do bolt up.

Not sure if there are any bearing changes required though...

i have try'd searching the site for relative topics but was unsuccessful. I have several ca18 turbo motors siting in my shed all without wiring looms and turbos . I was wondering about the compatabilty of the 4 speed gear box bell housing bolt pattern is the same as a ca18 as is to the ca20. i conld go take some time and inspect the rear of the both motors but im sure there is somebody on here may have had experience with this type of conversion.

cheers for any input
