type in "bones ute" in the search block on homepage and you'll see some old pics of the bakkie, changed a few things since - Jazz fuel cell, light weight drag wheels, some aeromotive fuel supply goodies, MSD ignition....i'll try and put some newer pics up. I'm still thinking that the Aus rego authorities will die laughing when I ask them to street register it though!

if you want to import it, might as well do it properly and register it properly.... if moving to western australia or south australia even tasmainia, their registration and engineeering/compliance laws are a lot more lax than the other states.

If you have owned the car for 12 months or more overseas and proved you have been using it (basically you have to live overseas for 12 months or more wit the car) you can import it as a private import and the complaince procedures will include engenieering it to australian standards.

This is great if you want to sell it later as an legally engenieered car is worth a lot more and legal to sell!

it doesnot cost that much to engenieer if the build quality is good/safe and sound!

If I was bent on taking the complete car....the only way to go through customs and register it would be to take the performance motor through Sea mail cargo and to fit a stock A12 engine in the engine bay . Make it a sleeper.... If the ute becomes a stock motor Datto, it should had no problems going into Australia. I do not know the law in Australia, is there a limitation in regard to time/life of a car going into Australia?

Something will have to be compromised, a full raging race car will have a hard time if any of ever making it.
You can always claim it as a parts vehicle that will never the driven on a highway , and once in, work the situation out....

Mmmmmm.. Jaimie got a point there, what would the chances be of finding a complete (tubbed, 4 link susp, cage) 1200 ute body for sale in Western Aus, that I can slap my motor and electronics into. Do they appear from time to time?
Other wise: what if I import it piece for piece - you know a brand new body shell only costs ZAR19000 from NISSAN SA, and it comes with no body tags if I,m not mistaken. Thats AUS $3275 for a 2007 model ute body!!!!

Plenty of utes in Australia from what I can see. Perhaps a best solution would be to take the engine and suspension and other components via Sea Cargo to Australia and then get a ute with a good body and go from there.
You can always register it with a stock motor and swap the monster motor in for daily driving.... ....swaping it back in for the emissions test or what ever the tests are called in Australia. Just be cool, no showing off , no accidents , no stupid actions that attract the guys we do not like to see on our rear view mirrors....
Brainstorming......

Thanks for info thus far, got hold of customs yesterday and they sed 10% imp duty on value & 10% GST - don't think that they understand the concept of a non road going non street registered drag car though because all the info they gave me was exactly as it is on their website for a road vehicle. And how on earth are they going to value it ? - bought in 1990 for 33000 SA Rand, then converted to 2 litre motor then added contless go-faster-goodies, then depereciated it over 7 years to date - not going to be happy if some car dealer / evaluator values it at 100 000 SA RAnd

yeah dont let not having a cat stop you, it wont cost much to get one put in for rego/complience... do it before you ship it even.

That being said, my 720 was engineered a couple of years ago with no cat required, and passed over the pits without it being questioned. Maybe commercial vehicles do have some kind of exemption? Although it was a '84 model and the engine was about '85-6 so both were pre ULP.
Thats in ACT, In NSW Tommy was required to put a cat in his 1200 ute with a15 for engineering.
