^^^ Is that because they protrude from the block or for other reasons? I've never actually had an A15 block, but seeing as the crank fits an A14 I just assumed they were basically the same.. Interested to know.

dat82: No heat treating went on. At that stage all that had been done to them was balancing. Head work had been done and obviously this affects the compression, but from memory it was 8:1 or a touch higher.
The motor was prepped by Barry at Datsport. I know he deals with mostly 1600s these days but am sure he would field a few questions on the subject for you if needed..

I was just looking at the acl website and the a15 and e15t pistons are almost identical the only difference i could find was the comp Height wich was bout 3mm ( does this mean they might stick out of the block a bit which u could probably shave of)
and the ring groove width was a bit thicker on the e15 pistons , so y is it so hard for them to fit ?

the pages in the links in the 1st post of this thread wont load for me.
The E series pistons don't fit an A15, so they aren't too much use to me.

No offense to everyone else replying to the thread you all have valid points
but SRB310 has had experience with doing this and it has worked ,honestly forgies are way to expensive cost price is around 600 to 700 and they have to be custom made
if you can get away with a turbo motor pistons fitting why not it would be more cost effective and in the end work
as you can see in the pic even if they were shaved look at the amount of dish on there more than enough
by the way SRB310 is that the heat proof coating stuff on your piston

I've run an A15 crank in an A14 so assume it would not be a problem, but correct me if I'm wrong. I think you would have to re-bore for the new pistons, well I would. No point boosting up a tired or worn engine.

so can you run the e15 pistons with a a14 crank in a a15 and it will work? i.e. no boreing required.

Here is a pic of the E15ET pistons. Bit hard to see but the dish is 'ice-cream scoop' like.. you could almost fit half a tennis ball in there. As I said A14 crank will reduce the lift and will probably rev a little nicer as well. I think i paid around $450-$500 direct from Nissan, it was a few years ago now though!

forged pistons will cost around $1400 for 5 (the fifth is a spare)
im sure if we had a group buy itd be less in price but then we would all need to be runing the same bore size if they where to get a group buy id nominate a size for a 1mm overbore on an a15

The pistons in an a15, based on the listed compression height will stick out by about 3mm, which I can guarantee will cut right below the piston crown, possibly into the top ring groove.

I have to be honest, cast pistons - 2 things to look for is a thick crown and a solid skirt (I might have to do an mspaint pic to explain the second bit) - have those two in place and they'll tend to handle boost/rpm about as good as a cast piston can.

Some of the aftermarket factory replacement pistons are fantastic, some are really dodgy, as a general across the board comment. I'm not sure what is what for dattos, but I can only mention (again) I've put some serious boost on top of cast acl pistons in a couple of different engines, and it's amazing what they will handle

If you want to push more than 12-14psi in there, save yourself some money (more up front but _FAR_ less in the long run) and bite the bullet and get forged pistons. Thankfully it's not as expensive for us 4cyl guys as it is to get 6 or 8 made.
