If you can make it fit properly, then the A/C pump will have some advantages to offer.

With the correct A/C fan, these things really suck some air, but are speed limited to about 3,000 rpm or so as they get pretty damn noisy by then.

When the engine temp is below a preset level the fan is not driven, but basicly it freewheels, sucking little or no power from the engine. Even when it kicks in, it freewheels when revs rise above the set figure & you should be moving forward at a good pace by then.

The temperature is sensed by a bi metalic spring arrangement in the fluid coupling & the heat that it senses is provided by the air flowing through the radiator core.

As I said, if you can make it fit & work, it will be simpler & less costly in terms of both cash outlay [since you already have it] & complexity in the engine bay.

Sometimes these pumps have extra vanes to pump more coolant, but this is better suited to low reving, 'city' engines as even the most basic pump will move the coolant at a good pace once you have a few revs up.

thabks mic but not sure if it what i need exactly, have modded the stock clutch fan by spacing it closer to the block eith longer bolts, washes bolted on and then the fan bolted onto them... works well and only slightly heavier.... clears the bottom tank easily now.
will test temps tomorrow on way home if it makes it to work.

damn clutch fan is a pain but will only swap pump if nothing else works for fan clearance.

was talking to mik earlier saying there is two different impeller designs actually

also.............

just remembered there is a pump, i think a15 vanette that is different

the mounting flange is closer in, i have a brand new one i've been meaning to take back actually

in all other ways its the same, i havent got a pulley to suit though, with this one the typical pulley wheel hits the housing of the pump

maybe this is exactly what you need mik?

water pumps

are water pumps for an a12 and a15 the same or similar. need to replace the one in the a15 due to clearance issues with the clutch fan on the pulsar radiator.

Was going to space the fan out with washes as it is fouling on the edge of the bottom tank.

have an a12 water pump with the normal fan type on there but wondered if flow rates etc would be different.

this is from the early model a12, front dizzy.

would run no stock fan but works well and car runs hot with only 1 10 inch thermo pushing air in.
