Hmmm... That's what I figured, but I can't seem to get it working, it's possible that there is a componet failure, but I'm thinking wiring, because to of the wires started melting when I tried to crank (not usually a good sign, lol)

You said a local shop should be able to do it, would any shop do it, or would it have to be one that does electrical specifically? Also, if I were to do that, what information/parts would I have to give them? Just the harness, or would I need to bring them the wiring diagram, or the car itself?

Either way, I guess I'll start calling places and getting prices tomorrow.

Wiring is fairly simple if you know what your doing (tho I suppose everything is simple if you know what your doing ). It would probably be worth taking to your local garage for them to have a look. An hours labour would prob cost less than buying and postage for a complete loom.
Also, a complete loom may not fix the problem as there may be a component failure.


edit: Also, if the car is not even turning over then there are very few wires involved. There should be one large wire going straight from your battery(+) to the starter, one small wire which is your ignition feed which should become 'live' when your key is in the crank position, and an earth from your engine to your battery (-). Regardless of the rest of the wiring, if these three are OK then your engine will turn over if your starters good)

Yeah, the other car was started.

After looking at it, I can definitely tell it's the wiring. I've done as much as my skill allows to repair the current wiring, but it's still not working.

So, I need to get a new (or good used) engine wiring harness. Does anybody have any idea where I could find one? I was thinking junkyard, but I really doubt any junkyard close to me will have one, as the B210 is very rare here, I really can't remember ever seeing another one. So any websites, or ideas where I could find one would be very helpful.

was the other car started when u tried to jump it?
cause u may have overloaded the batterys potential.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping is the problem. I decided not to work on it anymore tonight, because I didn't want to wind up under the hood, with a flashlight in my hand and a scowl on my face, in the middle of the night.

So I'll resume progress tomorrow, and hopefully either find out that it's working, or find the problem.

It sounds like you have a bad connection from your jumper cable. The cables would have sparked even with the donar car switched off. If you have a poor connection you can have some power transfer (ie lights) but when under high load (starting) you can lose the connection altogether.

Ok, so because the alternator (which is tested and good) was not charging the battery and a couple other small problems, I pulled the engine wiring harness out, and spliced in new wires where all of the old wires where the old ones were bad.

The old harness was all torn up, and a few of the wires were completely cut (by the alternator fan as far as I can tell). So I reconnected the wires as far as I could, rewraped the wires in insulation, and put it all back in the car.

Now, I have jumper cables going from the battery in another car to the terminals in the datto (no battery in the datto at the moment). At first nothing would happen, so I checked to make sure I was getting power from the battery in the other car (I did this by just touching the jumper cables together to make sure I had a spark) I did not get a spark, so I pulled the jumper cables off, started the other car to make sure the battery had a charge. It did, so I reconnected the jumper cables.

Now, first I tried turning on the headlights (before starting the car) and they did come on. But when I tried to start the car the e-brake light did not come on, and the headlights turned off. The headlights would not come back on after that, but I didn't try anything else, as I don't want to break anything.

So, before I start trying things, I was curious if anybody had any tips or anything as to what might be the problem. Or if anybody had a simple wiring diagram (the one in my manual is impossibly complicated) so anything that just show what wires go where in the engine compartment (I'm not doing the electrical work in the rest of the car yet).
