As I suspected.... The master cylinder was siezed.

Pulled it all apart.
Inspected the seals.... O.k.
Gave the M/C a light hone.
Reassembled and......... One of the seals caught in the fluid gallery that goes to the reservior.
Tore a nice half moon out of it .

And guess what - You can't just buy the one seal, you have to buy a whole kit. $75.00 .

I'm off to see what a brand new M/C is worth.
Can anyone in Brissy point me in the right direction?

Using the correct technique.. Master cylinder still won't bleed up.

Thinking the master cylinder is shagged.

I do a fair few trailor brakes at work and I find that to start the master cylinder to bleed. I remove the brake line completely. Fill the master cylinder with fliud, leaving the cap off. Then pull the lever to press the brakes on ( Press the pedal in a car ). I then cover the top of the cylinder with my hand to seal it. Then release the brake lever. I find this helps draw the fluid in, so its infront of the piston. I couldnt explain how though.
Then I bleed it like normal.

If you where pumping it while it was dry in the cylinder maybe it chewed the seals out Just a thought

I recall someone telling me a Nissan Patrol master cylinder is the same (7/8" x 3/4"??), can anyone confirm this?

fill the cylinder and gravity bleed and leave all the nipples cracked.
Next go to your local parts place and by a brake bleader that connects to a compressor read and learn how to use it,mine cost a hundred bucks and I have long since got my monies worth of use out of it.
An old mechanic told me that pumping the system is fine in an emergency but it tends to push all the #### thru the master and can screw up the cylinder and wheel cylinders, pumping the system is harsh but vacuuming is a gentle way of doing it.
cheers ade

Ive always bled the closest first.
I have never noticed a problem.
Whats the difference between bleeding the rear first on a split system like a 1200?

Bleed cylinder at nipples first

Then once thats done remove nipples from rear calipers
Fill rear bottle
Go drink beer and play playstation for an hour
Refit rear bleeders

Then once thats done remove nipples from front calipers
Fill front bottle
Go drink beer and play playstation for an hour
Refit front bleeders

Then bleed as normal..... furthest rear first then work your way closer to master doing drivers front last

i thought you opened the nipple furthest away from the master first when bleeding
so its opposite for priming the lines then?
