My opinion is no. I think it is to prevent topping-off problems at the gas pump (prevent spills), as it is an EVAPO part (emission control).

Anyways, Nissan USA is out of stock forever of the sedan hose, but who knows if they sell the Coupe hose yet?

Do I really need to use the inner hose? Not much left of it. Not to mention it is also made of rubber. Like suggested just use the correct size fuel hose which I will do.
Qwestion is: Do I really need to use the inner hose as well?

I got this idea from ddgonzal. I bought a length of correct diameter fuel filler hose from NAPA auto parts. ( It was $30-40 Canadian.) Then trimmed it to length using the old filler hose as a guide. It was tough getting it to flex into shape over the inner steel filler tube. The result was worth it though. No large fuel leak anymore. If your part of the world doesn't have 'NAPA' stores, I'm sure any parts supplier should be able to supply this type of hose. A farm/agriculture supplier may also carry suitable hose.
Good luck.

As above the hose from the tank to the fuel filler, must not leak.
