You got me there. I have been dismantling the GX dash & I have removed the light & wiper switches as well as the double choke cable & cigarette lighter. The brown that you can see in the picture is just plain filth.
I took to the knobs with a little cleaner & warm water & they are now blacker & brighter.

I also have a PB110 Excellent parts book, so I looked it up.
The knobs normally come with the switch [or whatever] & look the same as regular 1200 knobs in the illustration, however there are more options than I thought.

I looked at the light switch for example & here's what I found. To simplify things,I will substitute a letter for the part number.
DX= Deluxe. GL= Grande Luxe. GX= Goes Xeptionally well

Switch A. lighting for DX & GL
Switch B. Lighting & fog lamp GX [opt GL & DX]
Switch C. Lighting & fog lamp with illumination [opt all]

Knob A. Lighting switch [all]
Knob B. Lighting switch with illumination [opt all]

Switch 'C' iluminates the center part of the knob when it is on but this optional switch seems not to have been fitted to this particular GX dash.

The shaft in this lighting switch is siezed, so I will need to free it up in order to determine if it is the correct lighting & fog light switch which is shown as standard for GX.

There are four washer switches. Up to 12/71 with & without illumination, then 'from 1/72', with & without.
Four knobs for these switches too, but no reference to a brown rim.

I checked my 1200 parts book too, & for Australia, we use a different lighting switch 'D.' but the same old 'Knob A.'

Dodgeman, the GX one you have seems to have the correct knobs with brown rim that match the woodgrain effect, similar to what I have seen in later 70's datsuns, 200b's etc, is that correct?

Ah so you did end up getting it! Looks great and the spare is a bonus!

What does the good one need to make it really good?

EDIT - HERE's the one on ebay
There is a crack in the glove box lid, so I will probably swap the lids, & being a GL dash, it has a clock, but the parts dash is a GX, so the tach will be swapped. Other than that, it's all good.
They both came complete with the wiring harness, but the parts one has been in a corrosive environment which has caused some problems, but could be made whole again after being combined with a local dash which would provide serviceable switches, cables, radio etc.

The one on ebay looks VERY familiar. When I was checking these dash's out, I was sent a link to a finished auction that had been won by a bidder under the name Kipwife. It was a really nice one & had been bought at a reasonable price, so I kept a picture of it from the auction.

Kipwife seems to want every dash that comes up, along with many other parts, that show up on Yahoo Japan. He/she bids very aggressively & drives prices up to silly levels shutting out everyone else.

The dash on ebay looks EXACTLY like the first one that I saw that Kipwife had bought, & I am in a position to compare photos. There are a number of other things on ebay right now that look just exactly like items that enthusiasts were beaten out of on Yahoo Japan too.

It seemed that a bidding war had developed between me or another Datsun enthusiast that I was in league with, ... & Kipwife. I was driving up his winning bid prices until one day he did not bid on a dash & I won it at a much more reasonable price than previous ones had been going for.
The best way to get rid of an opponent like that when you want everything in the auction is to let him win one & hope he goes away.
I did go away & he/she returned to buy up stuff again.

Again, I need to acknowledge the help, guidance & assistance provided by 'M'
None of this would have happened without him.

It sure is nice..might get a little crazy.

I saw a very nice, mint condition, late 90s 325 bmw for $9999 today.

Having a Datto for race/rally, just isn't very cost effective anymore.

That dash will look great in my 2006 Ute, the new ones look a bit dull and grey.
Thats will be because it is grey.
Keep me in mind if another becomes availible.
