Thanks WhiteSedan, the sodablasting is looking more likely now, not as harsh on the flimsy datto panels. Seriously, they're weaker then a beer carton.

We'll probably use Sodablast (crazy name) at Taren Point. The bloke told me it wouldn't cost any more than $1500 for the whole car, including hanging panels. Obviously he couldn't give a concrete quote without seeing it, but that budget seems fair.

Sandblasting can be very harsh sometimes and can leave ripples in the panels. Look at beadblasting as well. That's what I had done.

One upside is sodablasting can remove bog where sandblasting can't. That's a non factor though as we removed the bog by hand.

Ive only had experience wit sandblasting.. i got the engine bay, 2 doors and in the tub of my ute done for $180.. so yeah its cheap.

I left my engine bay uncovered for 3 weeks and because no one toched it there was not a spot of surface rust to be seen

Maybe someone has had experiences with the other

Alright, we have two options for the ute and I'm not sure which way to go.

Option 1, Sandblasting: It's cheaper, closer to home and it etches the surface so it's ready for paint. However, it'll take a week and we'll need to coat it while the welding is done.

Option 2, Sodablasting: Costs twice as much and is on the other side of Sydney. On the upside we can drop off and pick up that day and the surface will be coated (lasts up to 6 months).

Anyone had experience with either, I've got no idea and will need to make a decision in the next week so I can book her in.
