im really not a fan of spot weld drill bits

sure they are good when new, but after a short time the centre bit starts to go blunt and wont cut in

ive taken to using a diegrinder with a rounded tool to get through spot welds on panels

but if your not planning on keeping the thing your removing them a spot weld drill is just something that makes the job take longer

Cable-tie you were about 1 hour too late, I ended up just using the grinder to remove them.

The nice way to do it is to use a spotweld drill.

1. Centre Punch and Spotweld Drill
2. Drill through the first layer
3. Remove first Layer

The spot weld drill is basically a flat cutter with a tiny centre drill. Should only just touch the second layer if you are careful.

I removed some (quite easily) from a 310 with a Sawzall. I then ground the spotwelds off once the bulk of the mount was out of the way.

yeah there are only the 4 spot welds holding it there

if your not planning on ever using the mounts again, probably just cut the thing off level with the crossmember then grind the bit of metal that are left off

or just grind through the spot welds and give it a good whack with a hammer

either way will work fine

I want/need to remove the engine mount plates from the cross-member. Looking at the plate close up it looks like its only held on by 3 welds.

I've been tossing up either cutting the mount down and grinding it flat or grinding the welds and using a wrecking bar to pry it off.

What do you guys reckon is the best approach?
Is there anything more holding these lil-buggers on?
