Since nobody else is going to reply to dimlight65, I will.
Try this link to Autocables in Victoria. They still make 'em new for 1200's. Check the 'Autoshade' pages.

Thanks for posting those coupe pics boys, probably my favourite sleeper.

My cousin has an early '90s Hilux with big chromies (looks like a lo-lux). At the 'Nats every yells to 'hit the switches' or 'piss off home' until he hits the go peddle and opens the old 5lt up. It used to have a canopy as well for that real sleeper look, but that's long gone.

here's the old girl now:

that his cousin next to the car.....has short hair now n doesn't look as much like a girl!!!!

This is quickly becoming my favourite topic!

A bloke I went to school with had an early '80s Corolla in flat black primer (rat rod style). It was full of dings and covered in birdshit, but had a worked 4AG turbo. He said he loved nothing more then torching cars ten times what his cost.

The great thing about a sleeper is you can park it in most places and it wont get looked at twice. you cruise in and out of your street so no one knows your secret. even the cops dont ask to pop the bonnet.

I seen a old escort sleeper in primer with black as windows a few years ago running on the great western highway, we were in my mates 180B - L20 with twins and started at roll start. This escort took off sideways and never seen it again all i rember is a sticker on the back window saying (another X file) it had ripped so many cars on the street and i later found out it had a cosworth engine.
There is nothing more try hard than all show and no go. big $$$ on looks and rims with std motor.
Anyway
Good luck with your Build Trav keep us posted with this sleeper of yours !!

They were a ZA thing at some stage too. I saw a new Merc with one on the other day, it was a new car, or not more than 3 years old...

I though I might smack some sense into the guy, instead I stomped on the loud pedal, and got out of there before it rubbed of on me...

EDIT: And even though my car might be slightly over built to qualify as a sleeper, the other night that guy with his 650i beemer got a hell of a surprise when I gave him a good o'l hiding...

Dont quote me, but I think the venetians are an aussie 70s thing.

Perhaps the rest of the world dont have enough class to have em!

Y'all kept talking about "Venetians" and I was having a hard time figuring out what you meant. Once I saw the pictures of that coupe I knew though. Where can I get a set of those? I don't think we got them here in the States. All we had were the kind that went on the outside.

Sleepers have so much more credit that something that advertises itself.

Everyone who has been in a car that looks flashy knows that you constantly get asked to race, and you get all sorts harrasing you.

a sleeper no only avoids all that, but you get so much more satisifaction when they are so sure of themselves, and you wipe the floor with them.

Go the sleeper. I think this thread hs just cemented the idea in my mind. I was planning on keeping daisy standardish looking, but now I think the white walls and venentian is essential to keep em guessing.
