Yeah big d is correct, there are ways around it as long as you don't want it show car finish.

My missus old man asked a Father and son team he knows who build their own show car toranas and such what they would charge to do my ute. They said as long as i don't mind waiting, as their cars are obviously given preference, they would do all the prep work, straighten out a few minor dings and ripples, and roll the gaurds as well as a full spray and bake for around the 2500 mark as long as i supply the paint. So all up under 3 grand without me lifting a finger.

I have now gotten the missus old man to ask them approx how long the wait would be and am waiting to hear back.

It's still more than i can afford to spend for quite some time, but when the time comes i don't mind waiting 3-6 months as i have seen the job they do on their own cars and it's top notch.

So yeah hunt around and be patient. Look for people like young apprentices or tradespeople or people that do their own cars and ask them what they can do for you. Even get a few mates around for a few weekends, put a couple of cases in the back fridge and get them to help you get stuck into the prep work yourself and save a packet.

Paint it yourself....with a roller if you like. Cost would be around $100 rather than $5000.

Have you tried Dr Kustom in Coopers plains/Archerfield they do full respray.
I saw a 1200 ute there fully stripped and heaps of imports with wide body conversion.
I heard Cameron's Bodyworks is good as well same area as Kustom.

Search their details in Yellowpages or online

Thats reasonble. You never know what your going to find under the paint. Do it your self if money is an issue

Body and paint work can be summed up in the old saying... "You get what you pay for."

If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Do your research and make sure you see some cars each place has painted to know what you're in for!

Geez!! lucky m in syd then for a paint job. i guess there are heaps of spray shops here in pretty much every suburb. but for $5000 you would get a 1200 ute painted to enter the next show and shine or even a panel beat maybe some rust cut and paint for that much.
i have got a few quotes for painting around the $2000 mark with me preping the body work. then the painter masks up, sprays and bakes in the booth.
personally its so hard to keep paint work nice these days if you want to enjoy your car, assholes open and bang there doors at the car park, trucks flick rocks when in front and then wear and tear of a daily driver, not forgetting leaving it in the weather for those with out a garage. (different story if its a show car)
i would look for a private painter, or a 3rd/4th year apprentance that knows how to use a gun. they make some $$$ on the private job and you save some $$$.
thats my 5c

goodluck with the paintwork.

not getting warrently on the job is probally not unreasonable since they dont know whats under the original paint. They could blow over some paint, only to have it peel off an 12 months cause of whats underneath.
