it's a 1980 and you're in CA there is nothing you can do and keep it smog legal. Save yourself the pain, if the thing ran so clean the fuel tank gained fuel it still aint CARB aproved. you'll need to register it an a place where the laws are more leniant.

Funny thing is there are CARB aproved superchargers, Nitrous kits and other things that don't belong on the road, however that applies only to the approved engine CFG.

Its not about road worthyness, safety or anything other than making a cottege industry for magical CARB approved parts.

If you can get it smogged somewhere where the guy testing doesn't look under the hood much then that may work too.

They're supposed to test the emissions, check the timing , make sure all the emissions equipment is present and working ( yeah just try to find some of those parts... ) make sure the fuel cap doesn't leak, etc.. then they put it on a treadmill and make sure it's clean enough at like 15 and 30 mph or something.

The object being that every year there are fewer service parts and sooner or later they'll have a reason to convince you to take it off the road. And the smog cutoff permanently stopped at 1976 ( thanks AAAhnold { what a disappointment } )

Unless you want an exciting life, it's probably not worth it.

If you really want trouble try changing fuels.

1980, California, supercharging, street legal. I would have thought that the last two items were a contradiction to the first two.

Can you really keep it legal with boost in cars of these models?
In this country, the vehicle is certified with all the equipment that was on it when tested. If you remove, adjust or modify any one of these smog items, it no longer complies with the certification & is therefore declared "unroadworthy"
Do you have similar regulations, or does it simply have to pass a sniffer-up-the-tailpipe test at the DMV?

Try doing a search. There are 4 or five of us here who have supercharged A series engines.

hey. I want to supercharge my a15 for my 1980 210 and I need some guidance. I want to know what kind of supercharger to use and what else I might need. I'm running a stock a15 so far but want to keep it street legal. I live in union city california u.s. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking for crazy boost or power and am trying to keep it cheap..
