Not all the A15's run the clutch fan, some come with a conventional fan. The problem with the clutch fan is that when the clutches stop working they lock up so the fan is constantly running. With the old plastic 4 blades, this wasn't a problem, but these new multibladed, metal centred things are heavy & take a lot of power to turn. Both my Navaras had the fan locked up, so i fitted electric fans. Either stick with the original one, or go for an electric fan.The stock fan doesn't take that much to
turn, my Hillclimb 1000 had a plastic fan because of the long queues going up to the start lines & i never noticed any significant loss of power.
PS the difference between the 2 styles of A series distributors is the base plate, but yours being a 120y the distributor will drop straight in.

The distributor swap will work, but the A15 dist. should be the electronic distributor (I think) which would be the stock upgrade.
The factory electronic distributor was never used in A series powered passenger models in Australia.

Thanks guy's for your help.
I just measured the shaft size and number of teeth on the gear and they are both the same.
cheers

But wait there's more!

Do most A15 motors run the clutch type fan
as both my A15 motors have these.
I assume they would as the waterpump and pulley are different.
Would these give the motor a couple of more horsepower as the waterpump isn't driving it constantly, and keep the motor cooler as it has a few more blades?

Thankyou all.

The A12 [rear dist] distributor should fit right in, but one from a 1200 engine [which is also an A12] would need to have the steel mounting plate at the base switched.

If your A15 is stock, then try to keep the stock distributor in it & switch the Pertronix parts over as the two distributors will have different advance curves & the one in your A15 is tailored to your stock engine
The one Pertronix part number fits about a zillion Datsun models, so if the original points are the same for the two distributors, then the Pertronix should fit.
[I love these things & my coupe has one fitted]

The fuel pump from the 1974 & up A12 [rear dist] should fit & work just fine, but the pump from an A10 & 1200 engine [front dist] will not.

Not real sure on the fuel pump, I think it differs.

Helllo all, as most of you may know, I am putting an A15 motor into my 120y coupe.
Currently it has a worked A12. I would like to know if the A12 dizzy can be put into the A15 motor, as the A12 dizzy has the petronix ignitor (electronic ignition) in it.

Will this work in the A15 or do I need to use the original A15 dizzy??

Just one other thing are the fuel pumps between the A12 and A15 the same?

Thanks guys.
