if you havent worked for insurance you really dont know much about how its calculated, of course under 25's may be higher or percived as such but then so is the risk, same for over 50's or whatever demograpic that you may be in.

Older doesnt mean cheaper, i have personally quoted and underwritten policies and quotes in my previous job that saw same car same suburb (big factor there) and different ages where son called for quote then got in dads name then in mums (never realising that although they would have valid polices they wouldnt be worth squat in a claim due to not providing correct information!)

and son(23) was marginally more than the mum (cheapest at 48 yrs) and dad being most expensive at 53yrs.

It was not a one off and have seen multiple scenarios of this. Do some online quotes and you will see through various insurers (shopping insurance is also part of it sometimes to compare) for some people.

Its true shop around, cheapest doesnt mean best as people find out when its time to claim.... so shop around and make an informed choice.


Its not rocket science, and i laugh when i always see net formums bitching about insurance prices... also be careful with online as a lot of companies dont "quote" you online the provide pricing estimates. this means the quote is not underwritten by their guidelines and the pricing is not legally bound until all the information is underwritten and confirmed as correct (same with net quotes but if info is correct pricing is set as it is a quote).

Greeslip rego is a scam as it third party compulsory in vic too... but atleast we dont have to shop around, its set in the rego price... easier although premium is rediciously high any way.

Of course, if your brother prangs it into somebody, & the insurance company refses to acknowledge that he even exists [as they would] then the innocent party's insurance company will sue him for the whole thing [including their legal team's fees] & he is living on bread & water till the sun grows cold.

That's of course after the cops are finished with for driving an unregistered & uninsured car. [which I presume stands a good chance of being unroadworthy & unsafe] &, assuming he is in the wrong, a possible traffic offence too.

Oh yeah, the friend could easily end up in the poo for allowing his insurance document to be used in the fraud as well.

For MY Datto I went with QBE too, using that site, $70 cheaper than AAMI. Rego due in next couple of weeks.

i checked that site out but found it weird cause
qbe was $650 but when got quote off qbe website it was $290 which i found good price
and that site when i put over or under 2nd driver under 25 there no price difference which is weird

got quote off 9 places

most places is double the price for under 25

i only asked this as i didnt want to pay to much and wanted a idea how much you all pay so i didnt regret paying a extra few hundred dollars to som1 when i could have got cheeper and saved the cash

My greenslip (with AAMI) is just over $400, and I'm 26, live in a low crime area and have all my points. I found it through the greenslips website, where the prices ranged from $400 to $700.

The only aspect for age is whether you're over or under 25, so there is no difference between 26 and 50 for the purposes of insurance. Just get the online quote and ring the company that offers the lowest. You may find the actual greenslip is cheaper than quoted (has happened to me before, a pleasant surprise).
