propane seems the best alternative fuel still, at the moment it's 1/2 the price of petrol and the prices are not rising as fast, sometimes they even go down...

it's not a solution for global warming, but it's the cheapest fuel you'll find commonly.

but it's not common enough in many places. the UK is well set up and much of western europe too, but I didn't see anywhere in my brief time in finland a tank of propane to fill a car off :(

I've started to think switching to propane when i did was a really good idea... there were times it didn't seem very wise... maybe just frustration with the engineering of a system that still allows the car to be fun.

hydrogen fuel cells and electric motors are where hydrogen works, as a combustible fuel it's not really a good choice...

The current gas priced are making me think twice, on building an alternative fuel option!

Forget Apollo 1 disaster, that was a pure oxygen fire. Remember the Hindenburg, is what i have to say. Oh the Humanity

the best renewable fuel will wind up being methane... it's easy to make biologically without wasting more valuable resources to produce it.

the problem with any of the combustable fuels other than hydrogen is carbon byproducts.

the ultimate solution is probably the "air car" using compressed air to drive around town, the most minimal use of resources...

more than global warming, there is a limit to the number of people the world can support in a reasonable quality of life. over population was never a real problem. the current # of people can't stay on earth and not destroy the place...

all the solutions seem very expensive.

Why dont we just use flooded batteries and regulate it to overcharge them a few volts.

We can build electric/hydrogen powered cars.

Plug them into a power outlet each night.
Overcharge them so their voltage is good and collect the hydrogen thats resulted from them being fully charged.

Drive them on electric power then when it runs out, switch over to the storged hydrogen.

Top up the water level in the batteries every few days and good to go.
Its so so easy.
Im off to hide now.

hehehe thats right Dodgeman....I built one to make my datsun go faster......I should have just run forged pistons, upped the comp and run Elf racing fuel.

Implosion? Man, ... that sucks.

yep been down this road. Hydrogen is way too explosive and dangerous as fuel for a car unless in a sealed hydrogen fuel cell and they have been round for many years. They also are very dangerous BTW just asked the crew of Apollo 1. Anyway the cell you made was a simple stage 1 electrolisis cell to spearate hydrogen anf oxygen. The power to separate the hydrogen is more than the power it makes and is therefore useless as a fuel source. There have been reports of these cells becoming a stage 2 and 3 cell emitting a little known substance called orgone which was a sub atomic particle discovered by Tesla (a russian Scientist?). Anyway this orgone given off by the cell is supposed to fuel the car. Now this intrugues me as alot of hippies have gottn a hold of this and they cry consiparcy theory when someone gets one to supposedly work, they all go underground claiming the oil companies want to kill them etc etc.
Anyway i think that if they are serious they would come out in the open, but I believe its probably a hoax. The are many internet pages around and its called a Joe cell, named after a guy called Joe in Coffs Harbour NSW (who incidentally has also gone into hiding). Apparently he had the first working model on a car after his grandfather passed on the story to him from the army, where appraently they used them on tanks in WW2 to greatly extend the range and power.
Look we would all love the magic silver bullet and i would especiallt love to the see the arab fuel consortiums get smashed by a simple renewable or free fuel, so I can drive my datsun and internal combustion engine in peace. But I believe it will come from some battery technology rather than hydrogen. its just plain too dangerous (remeber the biggest bomb ever exploded was a 59megaton hydrogen device the Russians set off where the fireball alone was the radius of London). I dont like the stuff.
Oh by the way this is supposed to work with implosion not explosion with timing advanced by 70 degrees!!

The interesting thing is the mixing of fuels of totally different structures with opposing qualities. eg. Hydrogen and CNG.
They both suck compared to petrol or LPG but together they are showing great promise.

http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/01/21/india-mixing-hydrogen-and-compressed-natural-gas/
Hydrogen can be separated from h20 efficiently using non traditional methods and well documented.

Storage is the issue unless mixed with another fuel successfully.

Im looking forward personally to bio-fuel from algae not grown in ponds or lakes but with cheap and ingenious vertical plastic bag factories. There are thousands of different types of algae and using bio-synthesis some are 50 per cent oil in stucture.
1 hectare of these farms can make 100000 litres compared to 30-100 litres for corn or soy.

Good luck with the experiment, look forward to the efforts.
