I made a mistake thanks to Topgear!
Yes Ill need 2 and 3rd only in gearing.
This will be difficult as usually 1st gear shares something with 2nd.

The reason for the 2 gears is that with a 9 incher that is all Ill need. Im trying to cut down on any extra metal spinning and causing either friction or extra volts also.
It will be connected direct so no flywheel, clutch etc. Also will lighter grade oil as it wont heat up also decreasing friction.
Im aiming for 110-120 klm/hour top speed.
There are some that have made a powerglide 2 speed auto to run without a torque converter and oil!! successfully and countless times on the quarter mile for EVs and also cruising around. I personally would like to do a clutchless gearbox setup like others also use without dramas.

Some scans would be nice also if possible. TNTshow

edp- Due to the torque of DC 90 per cent of Ev

I'm curious why you'd only want two gears? wouldn't you want all gears for various speeds & loads?

I have a friend who's building an electric VW Cabriolet (Rabbit) thats using the VW 5 spd., I think he's using a 9" motor as well. What voltage are you planning on running?

His web site is below, worth a look.

Why dont you just take off in 2nd gear?

DC motors have heaps of torque from 0rpm...

I've got a Stanza Haynes manual if that helps? It covers the 63A 4 and 5 speed.

I may be able to scan some pics for you but they aren't that great to start with...

Thanks guys, yes Im converting to electric and will need first tampered with for a taller ratio. A toploader would be perfect with its 2.58 first ratio but heavy as buggery.

Just found out I will have to find an L series 4 speed like a 63a for the torque. The w56 could shred itself with a 9 inch DC motor.

Anyone know where I can get pics of the internals? Then I could see whats sharing what.

Got one you have in Bayswater if you want. I'll swap it for a 96 packet of nurofen in the little white container. My backs fricken killing me at the moment.

Have you got something in mind for the 1st and 2nd ratios you want?
