No can do. 120Y came with either H145 or BW68 diff. 1979 1200 Ute came stock with H165 diff.
Aussie 120Y's came with the H145 during 1974, then H150 for all imported 120Y's after that.
Australian assembled 4 door Sedans from July 1976 came with the Warner rear axle assembly.

Why do you need to swap the diff?Is it broken or do you just want a different diff ratio. You can get different ratio's for a H165 from a variety of other models, 180b Wagons, Series 1 & 2 Bluebirds, Early Stanzas & some Vanettes. There is info in the technical directories, or some body else might help.

are you wanting to swap the whole assembly or just the centre?

The early H145 is a little diff while the H165 is quite a bit bigger.

If your diff is physically larger that the H150 [120Y] diff, then you have a H165, but if it is a little smaller, then you have the H145.

Do you know exactly what model your ute is?

If you have an early ute with the H145 diff, then the H150 diff from a 120Y will fit but a 2mm spacer & a second gasket is recomended.
If you have the later H165 rear end, then the H150 diff will not fit.

Hey guys,

I am going to swap the diff out of a datsun 120y into my 1200 ute this weekend and wanted to know will this be a straight swap or will i have to do some modification.

Is there anything i need to watch out for?
