Thats the best thing mate you will get use to the gun and find a happy medium Just dont have the pressure to high especially with 2 pak you will have overspray everywhere That can be part of why it ends up really rough to because the overspray is falling on the wet primer as you go across. When spraying go side to side so the fan should be vertical not horizontal. Like i said call me if ya like champ i know what tis like to do a first time respray and still not an expert by any means but ive worked in panel shops over the years and have done quite a few cars each one gets better. My first respray was in a carport with a beaver gun. The guy in at the local panel shop whos a good mate now didnt believe me we had to show him the beaver with the traces of paint on it. It came up beautiful after a good cut with 1200 and a buff and it was Midnight Blue with a purple pearl. Very hard to prep as we knew it would show up every imperfection and there was only one really small one on the top of the guard This was an LC torana and it gleamed. Sorry goin on now just really proud of that paint job it took away a lot of that self doubt we can have at times.

The adjustments on your gun are usually set at a standard setting from new or lets say a default setting. the one on the bottom of your gun handle is a pressure adjustment the one up on the back is for the nozzle or response for paint release there should be another one possibly which adjust the fan from large down to a squirt you want it to fan out a bit. Usually you should have the compressor running about 35 PSI. The reason your primer came out like sand paper can come down to a couple of things but for now im going to assume its the 4 to 1 ratio or in other words its to thick. Also Are we talking 2 pak primer or Acrylic ?

Firstly i will assume your using a primer that is fit for bare metal say ppg one shot primer filler and 4 to 1 is more of a filler ratio than a primer ratio you could dry sand it after a few coats with 220 dry paper on an orbital then mix a final coat 60/40 That 60% primer 40% thinners it will be quite thin and you will need to move a little quicker with the gun. Then you just have to hit it with guide coat say GMH Black but mix that at 60/40 but this time 60% thinners 40% GMH Black as you only want it to dust on your not painting the whole thing black its just (Guide Coat)so you pick up any imperfections and low spots when wet rubbing with 800 or even 1000 for applying color. One thing i learnt very early is to remember its all in the preparation. My first respray took me 2 months in prep a few hours a day that was to. Also the ratios on the tin are just a guide you can play with it at say 3 to 2 ratio and you will find it goes on smoother and more even you will get further around the car. At 4 to 1 you will be chewing it up id rather have 3 or 4 thin coats than 2 thick ones. Any inquiries call me on 0405748798 ask for Andrew more than happy to give a tip if i can. Enjoy

1) I hope you removed all traces of paint/bog/primer and was left with only bare metal where you used the stripper. Otherwise nothing will stick to it!

2) primer as your final coat? Meaning your never gonna paint it or just that amount for the day?

3) just spray primer on as thick as you think it needs it and sand back smooth to eliminate any rough bits.

hey guys just painting my 1200 (first time painter) ive paint striped the roof, wax and greased removerd it and started to spray my primer. ive added 4 parts a and 1 part b like it said for primer filler. do i have to add reducer for the final coat to make primer as my last coat? or do i spray it on thick and rub it back? because im rubbing it back anyway does it matter to add the reducer?

i hope ive made sence
