I have some near new laser pistons which I was told by the guy I got the from would require the block decking. But I thought that fords and mazdas were pretty much the same.........

The 1600cc B6 Mazda has a 78mm bore and a 20mm wrist pin
The pin height is 31.4mm so you have to shave some off to get down to the 30mm required for an A15
That being the case to get them suitable for boosted applications would mean taking too much off the crown to get down to an accesptable CR and compromise strength

STD and replacement aftermarket pistons for the B6 are just cast and nothing special unless you order forgies
If your ordering forgies then get them made to suit what you need... cost not much more for customs

Keep your comp around 8.5 (sounds suspiciosly like STD comp) and you could run up to 14lbs with some injection and a decent tune.(safely)

I think there is a ford/mazda piston which can be fitted with has a shorter pin height. This means decking the block to get the CR up, or not if you want a low CR. My next rebuild will be using pistons along these lines.

Although having pistons that are below deck height is not conducive to good squish characteristics.

Its pretty easy.
Measure the pin / deck heights / diameter.
Go to engine reconditioner.
Ask for piston spec book.
Look at Ford tx3 ......
!!!!!!!!

Probably has a 20mm pin so you need to resize l/e
I used Mazda 78mm uc pistons with .5mm off the squish.
Theres literally dozens of pistons you can use.
You might want a larger bowl in piston if you are s/c ing.

there are 2 options on the mazda pistons from memory h/c twincarb type and l/c single carb, maybe the l/c ones will work out ok.
you also need to know the head cc so you can work out real c/r.

What are the diamentions of the TX3 pistons?
IE, diameter, pin height, pin bore diameter.
