If I ever get my engine rebuilt to make some serious power I'll be going auto. They're the way to go if you have drag racing in mind or don't want to worry about smashing manual gearboxes. (You probably have) but if you haven't done it already I would look into prices of say a 3 or 4 speed jatco, c4 or even a trimatic.

They might be cheaper than building up a CA box and the Jatco's etc have been tried and tested heaps before. I really have no idea though Just an idea. Should be good either way

I want to do the same in my sedan i have some friends with turbod 4cyls with autos but the boxs have been built they are great fun big burns and 10 sec quarters go for it and keep us updated someone on here had a ca20 3spd auto behind there ca18t

i read a long time ago a guy in S.A. was building the jatco's strong enough to handle over 450 hp....with the right stall converter i think it will be ok...it won't be a daily or anything so if it doesn't perform the best on the road i will just ride my kwaka or drive my other car (won't mention here...aka not a datto)

kev rowley is doing an auto behind a spasticly huge RB motor in a 120y sedan for drag racing only...he did say the auto behind a RB20 in this car was sweet to drive on the street even with a 5k stall or something silly

the head transmission rebuilder and an old engine rebuilder, at the shop i work at, says a properly built and set up auto transmission will OUT SHIFT a 3/4/5/6spd manual anyday! (he's also an ex drag racer and used both manual and auto transmissions, so he knows what he's taking about)

If it's built properly, ie strong enough clutch packs to hold the power without slipping and burning the dam thing up, and strong enough hard parts to handle the abuse, with the proper torque converter (most likely in this case specially built to suit it) for the usage and specs, and a good shift kit if possible it will shift faster than having a manual box in there.

anyways.... cool that your doing something different... my girl always wants me to do an auto one so she can drive it too

i have been against self shifters for years...until i owned a XR6 turbo with the auto. lazyness can be fun too

me first i guess. it will be a strengthened ca box with high stall and shift mods...i just thought maybe someone had tried this...

btw if autos were no good for drag racing then why do so many drag racers use em?? the 5 speed just won't handle the horsepower i want to have...over 380 at the treads for the strip
