I Had the same problem when i got rear ended , i got offered $2200 for a mint restored 85 1200 ute , however i threatened to take the other persons insurance company to court as i gathered evidence from various websites and papers proving the car was worth between 6-8k and i ended up getting $6800 for it ......

The other option is if you know a good panel beater they can get you to fill out a not at fault claim form that is offered by a company that authorizes the panel beater to repair your car at there independent assessors quote value and that company then pays the panel beater for the repairs and they chase the other persons insurance for the repairs plus there expenses

If you were rear ended, then the other driver is at fault. Assuming that they are insured, your repair cost should be paid by them.
