Get a DE, and upgrade to a DET later. The de-turboed DET will be mega boring to drive, and you'll be thrashing it all over the place to keep your hormone levels high enough that you don't go all emo (like most young people). This is the sort of time when the cops will bust you.

The way cops target hoons these days, you'll probably be on your P's for the next 10 years anyway.

DET to DE isn't a terrible idea, but the cost of getting headers etc makes it not really worth the cost. You'd have to get it engineered as a DET when the time comes anyway.

After reading the license restrictions.. If you live in NSW ..no engine modifications allowed. Start preparing to be "barina'ed"

i dunno where u r from but i was looking on the rta website and it states that u actually can not have anything done to your engine to increase the engines performance while u r on your P's. but im not sure because i have only heard about not being able to have a turbo from mates of mine. but im not 100% sure so driving a 1200 ute with an engine converstion might be ok.
but yeah not 100% coz i have been trying to work this out myself.

get a det motor and a de ecu. cheaper
remove turbo, it may be a little flat due to lower comp but its only for a while
even 100 hp in a 1200 will go good
you could even learn a bit of tuning before you go turbo as you will have a bigger margin for error
you could use nitrous on the low comp de
dazza

If he's going with a C4 auto it might be to help it get on the stall converter.

i agree with lachie, just get a ca18det and take the turbo off, that way you have the better internals. or even go an sr20 then there would be no need to upgrade because you engine size is already maxed out

220hp out of a t25?? wat the..

no need for NOS, that is a wank factor for big v8's not turbos, and if ur racing why do u want nos?

no need for an aftermarket computer just get ya started one remapped.. normally cost bout 600 with new remapp and dyno tune

im aiming for 200rwkw with just t28bb 550cc inject and z32 afm.. in the commin weeks.. thats with a remapp from adelaide's best ca18det turners..

Just an idea. Why don't you get the CA18DE running for now then when you are off your p's rip it out and just put in a CA18DET instead of building up a CA18DE which is sounds like you are planning?

There was a recent thread on nissansilvia.com about doing a CA18DE+T...

about to do a ca18de conversion into a ute any tips?

because ill be on my green p's 4 2 years im going to buy the aspirated version and then bolt on an sr20 turbo so i can get about 250hp on 15psi as ive been told the ca18det turbo is only good for 220-240hp. i will be running a ford c4 im also unsure about the diff is a hilux diff the best option i will be runnin a 32 spline axle in it.

note: i intend to race (hence c4 and 32 spline) so i will be using a 50hp nos kit and be running a mild cam with forged internals and an aftermarket haltech ecu, does any1 suggest any other mods like injectors? that i will need
