I just had a new one made up as the uni joints in the tail shaft were not replaceble and I was upgrading egine so I have a shortened HQ holden shaft with replacable uni's

YES, sedan and ute tailshaft are the same, except:

* tailshafts are different between auto and manual gearbox (some sedans had autos)
* tailshafts are different between H145 diff and H165 diff and BW diff. Most utes have H165, except 1971-1974 utes. Some Aussie sedans used BW diff. H165 flanges are larger than H145 flanges.

Auto tailshaft is the same length as sedan manual or wagon H145/H150 only it has a larger yoke to suit L series manual also.

It's a tricky question, because the sedan uses the h145 and the ute the h165 diff.

If the flanges are the same. I 'think' they are the same, because a CA18 guy used my sedan tailshaft (modified to suit a ute diff in a sedan).

Just find a Ute tailshaft. Also be warned the auto shafts may also be a different length.

anyone know if a sedan and ute tailshaft are the same have not seen a sedan one so that is why i am asking as i need another tailshaft for antoher 1200 ute im building up to get running
