In the B210, the fuel and temp gauges indeed share a VR (bimetal arm and heater coil type) which provides a ref pulsating 8vdc to both indicators. Unfortunately it is located within the water temp gauge, necessitating replacement of the gauge.
1. Datsun B210 factory manual states that when both fuel and temp gauges become faulty at the same time.
a. Faulty gauge vr (gauges pointer fluctuates excessively) Replace water temp gauge.
b. Loose or poor connections (gauges fluctuate slightly) correct connector contact.
I don

Might be on the back of the guage cluster
also, and may have 2 to 3 wires coming out of it....guess the whole instrument cluster is coming out

Scotty,
Nissan did add voltage regulators to the instrument clusters in the 80's. Usually located on the back side of the speedo or tach. About 1inch square.
Somewhere in the mass amount info on this site i think there is a pic of one and I think the title is something like :can anyone tell me what this is?"
I know that wasn't much help but its what I got.

Kelmo

Hi All,

I have just had an issue start to occur in my 1200 ute where the fuel and temp gauges are not working.

Having a read around some previous posts I am led to believe that there should be a voltage regulator (VR) that is specific to the instrument panel/dash, and if that is faulty the gauges dont work... (ie: there is a VR in addition to the main VR connected to the alternator).

Can someone please clarify that this is the case, and if so - where the heck is the VR in the instrument panel ?? Cant seem to find it anywhere.

(and I cant find a second VR on the wiring diagram that is connected to the wiring of the fuel and temp gauges)

Thanks!!
