I always used leftover engine oil whenever I did an oil change to top up my GX Hitachi's.

When the engine was stone motherless cold in the dead of winter the extra enrichment was just what the doctor ordered, but when the engine was at op-temp the oil had thinned enough to allow great performance.

Besides, I was lazy & a cheapskate.

Just in case its not been made clear, the weight of the SU oil is not a "set and forget" item, it's an element of your overall tune. It primarily affects the rate of enrichment under acceleration, and works in conjunction with the dashpot springs. Some experimentation can pay peformance divideneds.

trans fluid is fine, but there is a speciality oil you can get. sewing machine oil is good too.

Im using trans fluid but planning on swapping to sewing machine oil in the warmer months.

To thick an oil too slow to respond, too thin and it chatters
