what parts for the CA are hard to get? or what parts for the SR you can get but not the CA?

A series did exactly what it was supposed to.push a light car around at a fair pace with good reliability.at a low price.
i want to push a light car around at an insane pace with good reliability at a moderate price. hence a CA.

probably because so many people just love to hate!

Pretty much sums it up..

I love the old A series as well. Such a simple design but has worked well and is capable of some good numbers.
Only reason I went conversion is the fact the SR pulls good numbers stock, plenty enough for me, so I won't be ringing its neck off. And so should last for years.
As far as ca vs sr.. I could fit the Sr legally and i couldn't get a stock number plate with a CA prefix...

And yeah, they are all Datsun/Nissan, so all good.

I don't know what the problem is. They're all Nissan/Datsun engines, which means they're all good.
We just need to pick the one most suited to our aplication & budget.

I'm going with the dinosaur that's built from all the rare goody bits. It will NOT be a tyre smokin' monster, but it will be exactly what I want, a precision Swiss watch that is light, acceptably quick, cheap [OK, I lied about the cheap part] & it will provide all the thrills I want. [& can handle]
Those of you that are still into pissing contests can go play with the cammers, I got nothing to prove & sure enough, there's an engine that's just right for me.

All Datsun, .. all good.

plugs in all nissan cranks are aluminium (to you guys in the US this is how the rest of the world spell it)
if the crank has been in a caustic tank these plugs will fall out
sometimes they fall out anyway :)

200kw at the treads....

my point was that any engine has good and bad points and i don't have hatred for any of them. i loved my ca18det 1200 wagon, i love my sr20det 1600 and i love my 1000 wagon with a14 (soon to be efi quad throttle). You could definately fit a ca18det in a 1000, i trial fitted one and i've seen one for sale it can be done but requires some fab work. not that its the be all and end all as an efi a series turbo would have other advantages and be very cool.

one of the things i remember with the CA was make sure you take out the little brass (i think) plugs they have in the crank and replace them with grub screws. CA's are renowned for having spun bearings, sometimes due to losing oil pressure through these but that is often due to poor maintainence.

The 63 is touted as being able to take 200BHP comfortablely. You're aiming for 250+hp. Thats will be quite an accomplishment. My engine isn't exactly a "little walk in the park" either.
