The R31 Pintara may be 4 cylinder, but 3 litre RB30E powered Holden Commodores used the same diff with Higher ratios (lower numbers).

I run a cut down VL commodore LE Wagon diff in my 1200. 3.45:1 ratio. Open diff with 25 splines. I've had an R31 silouette 3.9 LSD for 2 years that I need to put in. That's the next project, but it will hopefully also include a Ford Falcon watts linkage for the rear end.

once you cut off the ends and suspension brackets a diff (same spline) is just a piece of pipe. weld on the ends for the axles you have
r31 ford commo all the same
with the r31 you get 4 stud (datto) axles and some brakes
the diff is a borg warner 78 series. ford from early 70's, commo from VK? on

my diff is a VN housing, once cut down its exactly the same as r31, with r31 centre and 3.7 gears
so LSDs from holden and ford diffs can be used as long as they had the right splines

cheers champ for the info there thats good to no......
so what ford/holden models has the LSD center for the R31 that i can use?........

as everyone else has said

pintara is 25 spline with 4.11 gears
skyline is 28 spline with 3.9 gears in autos and 3.7s in manuals

housings and brakes are exactly the same

my diff is a VN housing, once cut down its exactly the same as r31, with r31 centre and 3.7 gears

all 28 spline centres, open and LSD, that came with 3.08-4.11 gears are exactly the same
so LSDs from holden and ford diffs can be used as long as they had the right splines and gears

ford 28 spline LSDs are the tricky ones here as they came with 2.7 and 2.9 final drive and can only be used with those gears. they might be good for the internals though if you have a commodore or falcon LSD carrier that didnt have 2.7s or 2.9s

Pintara are a poor skyline CA20 4 cylinder therefore cheaper and weaker everything. Some still have discs on the rear that will fit ute diff with slight mods, Just found that out off PIGDOG the walking talking mods and datsun encyclopedia.
