Bad wiring is the most common cause for this type of problem. First check the belt tension (1/2 inch deflection is spec). If the belt tension is correct, suspect the alternator brushes, which are only about $5.
To test the alternator, touch F wire to BAT+. Even at idle it should rise above 12V. Spec is about 13.5-14.5 volts. If this works, problem is in the external wiring or a bad regulator.

My car wont charge until I rev up the engine to unreasonable RPMs. Everything bumps up in voltage, then it overcharges... But at least it doesn't die.
Curious...?
