ca 's have a graphite gasket from factory
they last about 10 years
you do the math (1989)
if you get one thats not blown its about to
so if you can get it cheap its a good deal
if its brown in the water passages its been blown a long time and head may be corroded (there is no way to tell until its off .can you purchase subject to disassemble and check?)
you WILL have the head faced while its off
deck surface can corrode too

Headgaskets blow for many reasons. Mostly they blow from overheating.

On an OHC it's a bit harder than the old A12.

But it's sure not impossible if you are competant with replacing a CA18 timing belt.

You might want to get the head skimmed while it is out to ensure it's flat.
