Oh that's right, I've got a dozen or two myself. I almost forgot.

the box is just a 56a but ribbless
There's no such thing. If it is ribless it is not a 56-series box.

For example:
* Ribbed (56-series), smooth case (60-series)
* Open in new window

Of course I could be wrong. If your ribless transmission has "56" cast on the housing, post up some good pictures so we can see it. So far I've not heard of nor seen such a beast.

yeah the clutch cable is in the same place, the box is just a 56a but ribbless, doesnt that mean extra strength? Quote:

the only thin that may be diferent from a ribd one is the clutch cable hole, and allso the rear mont (may need to fab something up?) both fairly easy problems to solve

Sure it'll fit into a Datsun 1200.

sounds like it's a F4W60L, F4W60A, or it could be an elusive 60 series 5 speed...

and as far as I know - the A15 four speeds are identical to the A14 gearboxes

I have a 60L 4 speed in a 120Y - and if the gearbox has the factory gearbox mounts thats good

be careful mounting the gearbox up if it comes without mounts...

as there is the rearmost set of mounts on the extention housing are for the exhaust to hang off.. and take care modifying them

the 56A (A12 gearbox) and 60 series mounts are different as the 60 series boxes are wider

All 4-speeds for A14 have 'ribless' case.

For Identification, see photo comparisons at: Gearboxy ID

hello folks i have recently picked up a gearbox, i was told by the previous owner that it was either from a sunny or a 120y sedan. But tere is a difference with this one and the others that i have had before, this one doesnt have ribs, you know a ribbless gearbox. i know that it means it is a stronger box but could this mean at all that it could be a 5speed or just a different ratio please help me, thanks to the more experienced members who help people who need a hand on a daily basis, it is truly apreciated also.
please help me
