bottom brackets are heaps different

top brackets there is a shorter and longer version, i think the a15 is the shorter and this could also be an issue if you have the wrong one

Yes, if the rear flange of the tailshaft doesn't match the tailshaft of the diff, you have the wrong part.

so I have the equal length horns on my crossmember
adaptor plates are fitted
I have a propshaft that has the funny shaped flange on it, 2 straight sides, 2 notched out sides, doesn't fit, too small so does this rule out the H145?
The tailshaft with borg warner written on it doesn't fit, too large, so this rules out the borg warner.
So It must be the H165 prop shaft I require.
Am I on the right track?

Yes, it is quite simple.

1. You have the wrong tailshaft:
* No ute came with a borg warner rear axle
* Your tailshaft says borg warner
* Some sedans came with borg warner rear
To doublecheck that no one replaced the original rear axle assembly with a different one, look on it, does it say BW anywhere?

2. Old style 1971-1973 A12 for equal height crossmember horns. Hence adapter plates for 1974-up (including A14) engine.

by the way, no utes came with H150 diff. It was either 1971-1973 H145, or 1974-up H165.

How do i tell if it is a h150 or not. I just assumed it was becasue i have one tailshaft flange too small and one too large
The shaft has borg warner written on it. so I'm guessing my ute hasn't got a borg warner diff in it. aren't utes usually H165?
never assume, it leads to assumptions!

gearboxes are all the same length (except the autos)

definately sounds like an issue with the wrong tailshaft to suit your diff

h145 and h165 are different length and i assume h150 different again

are you sure you have h150??

whats the best way to determine age if the car has no tags? the cross member that I'm using has equal hieght engine mounts, left and right, thats the pre 74 crossmember isn't it?
I just tried to marry my tail shafts to the diff, niether of them fit, 1 is too large, the other is too small. so I think I need to find a H150 tailshaft.
